The Newsies' Retreat, Wilkes-Barre, PA, 3:30 am

POV: Narrator

Davey's extremely loud alarm goes off. The Newsies relied on him to be the first one to wake up since he is the most lenient when it comes to waking up. Racetrack was still sound asleep, with his sleeping mask still on. He went into the private bathroom in his nightrobe and sat on the toilet. He looked outside the window, and it was still dark, he could hear the crickets chirping and other night critters. He could see the white outdoor light from the basement door outside shine out into the woods. He showered, curled the top of his hair, put on fragrance, and got dressed into his "beach outfit" the Newsies planned out ahead of time. He had a blue tropical patterned button shirt with brown shorts and sandals.

Davey turned on the deck lights from the kitchen and walked outside into the black sky. His sandals clunked against the boards of the veranda. Getting Jack to wake up was already a difficult task, but at about 4 in the morning? Davey thought of the only thing he thought would wake him up. He unlocked the Newsiemobile with the keys in his pocket, grabbed the Baritone Saxophone that was stored in there, assembled it, then took it upstairs to the Master Suite where Jack was sleeping. Once he was in Jack's bedroom, he did the only thing he could. He blasted a Low Bb on the Bari Sax as loud as he could, immediately causing Jack to wake up and fall out of his bed. "Like your new alarm clock?" "I hate ya, Dave," Jack said groggily. "Congrats, Jack! You woke up at 4:00 am! Come on, get up, it's Beach Day!" Davey shouted. "A'right, I'm up." Jack got up in his silk robe into his bathroom to get ready. Davey left his bedroom, walked down the steps to the garage, then walked outside. He could see the dark blue sky.

Davey disassembled the Sax and packed it up. By the time he was inside the house, the Newsies were already awake. "Heya Dave, we heard the Bari Sax. It echoed throughout the whole forest!" Crutchy said. He was already dressed and ready to go. Sarah was walking down the stairs from the loft with Les, also fully dressed. "Mornin', Sis!" "Good Morning Davey!" They kissed and Davey hugged Les. He went into his bedroom to wake up Racetrack, while Crutchy woke up the others. "Come on Race, time to get up! You don't want us to leave without you, do you?" That got him awake.

A few minutes later, Jack came into the house fully dressed and ready to go. "A'right Dave, ya alarm ain't that bad afta all. Ready to announce BEKfast?" Jack said. He shouted breakfast was ready at around 4:15 am, and all the Newsies were in the kitchen before 60 seconds, all dressed and ready to go. They all were scrambling to find cereal bowls and their favorite cereal brand. "Hey, who stole my Lucky Charms?" Racetrack said. Just then, a random lady walked into the house and went into the kitchen. "WHAT IS. GOING. ON. HEA?" The lady yelled, detaching her words. Jack went up to her and said "BEKFAST!" The lady left the house.

At 4:30 am, everyone was ready and fed, now they needed to pack up all of their personal hygiene products and their pillows and blankets. They loaded their bags into the Newsiemobile one by one. As they walked back and forth on the concrete path that leads from the steps of the veranda to the driveway, the sky was a light blue, and the grass shined with the morning dew. The weather was going to be good today. Davey and Racetrack went around the house checking for anything left behind and locking it up. "Hey, I found a phone charger!" Racetrack said. "Huh, we'll go back and see who's it is when we're done," Davey responded.

Davey locked the front door and secured the rest of the doors beforehand, also turning off all of the lights. When they returned to the Newsiemobile, Davey held up the charger and said "Hey, is anyone missing their phone charger?" "There it is!" Kid Blink said. "I'se been lookin' all over for it!" "A'right, are we ready!?" Jack said. The Newsies responded with a positive "Yes!". Jack pulled out of the driveway, driving slowly on the rocky driveway, making the turn, and finally making it to where the road and driveway met. Jack made the turn, and followed the route on the Waze app. The Newsies were finally on their way to their annual vacation, at 5 in the morning.
