POV: Narrator

The Newsies came to visit their leaders who were currently all in the recovery process. Temporarily, Skittery assumed the role of leadership between the two companies. Jack had been diagnosed with a rare and aggressive form of COVID-19. It had been revealed that the envelope he opened was traced back to one of Mary's people from CNN headquarters, and it had been filled with this rare form of COVID. It was meant to go to Kelson, but in a "fortunate" twist of things in a way, it ended up going to Jack. He had one hour to live at this point and the Newsies spent every moment cherishing the time they had left with him. Sarah was by his side the whole time.

Jack signed a contract agreeing to allow The New York Times to be subsumed by CNN on his deathbed. This meant that it would now become a part of the News Company, however, none of the ranks or positions would be affected. However, Jack never disclosed who the new President should be.

12:23 pm.

Jack Kelly was officially dead. The Newsies were all distraught, but happy knowing that he, as their leader, took the ultimate sacrifice for all of them so they can prevail. The one issue they had later that day, was deciding who would be the new President of the NY Times. After a few days, the four were all released, and it had been revealed that Spot had been drugged by Mary, so he was immediately forgiven and let back into the New York Times. Racetrack and Spot immediately became best buds once again, and he was happy to have his old friend back. Sarah gave Kelson a great big hug and they kissed. They declared that in honor of Jack, they would not officially become a couple, unfortunately, but they would remain best friends. But last of all, Davey and Jake turned out to have deep feelings for each other, and ultimately ended up committing to being in a relationship with one another, an interesting twist of sorts for everyone.

Carteret County Courthouse, Beaufort, NC, 12:00 pm

It was the day of Mary's sentencing. With Davey acting as the attorney and the Newsies all against Mary, the judge sentenced her to be confined to a mental institute for the rest of her life. The Newsies cheered as Mary looked on, especially towards Kelson, giving them a dirty look. Kelson secretly shot her the middle finger, with Sarah noticing. They both secretly laughed. An interesting twist to this is that the minute the judge banged the gavel sentencing Mary, was at 12:23 pm when Jack died a week earlier. The very next case after that, which Davey also was representing, was Kelson's noise complaint against the baby next door. Thanks to Davey's smart plan, the baby was fined $300 and was to move out of their house within 24 hours. The money was to also come from the baby itself, as well. Kelson hugged Davey, and then Davey kissed Jake on the lips.

COVID continued to get worse, and the Newsies were still grieving Jack's loss. Because Skittery was still officially the interim acting President for both companies, Kelson immediately went back into his position as President, and Jake as Vice President. However, the New York Times needed its own president and someone who was one of the Newsies. They all voted on Davey as the new President, with Jake as the Vice President of the New York times as well. The Newsies did it for Jack, knowing that this is what he would have wanted. Unfortunately, the Newsies weren't able to return to New York until June of that year because of COVID traveling restrictions.
