A Newsies Vacation (Gone Wrong)

The Newsies' Beach House, Emerald Isle, NC, 9:00 pm

POV: Narrator

It was now after dinner in the late evening. The Newsies had come up with a plan to find Sarah and Les, thanks to Jake's helpful insights. They now knew that all this time, Mary and Spot were in cahoots with each other, but nobody still knew why. The most likely reason was so they could take over both companies and rule them like a tyranny. They needed to do something before it got out of hand.

The plan was to search for where Mary and Spot's secret headquarters were to find Sarah and Les and to neutralize Mary and Spot's forces. They all took a flashlight and paired up in groups to split up walking in the roads. "A'right, so we's goin' to split up into different groups. Racetrack and Crutchy, you guys come with me on to Coast Guard Road. Kelson, Jake, and Davey, you dudes can take Ocean Drive. The rest of you can split up into threes to take the side streets." Jack announced as everyone was gathered in the Living Room.

The Newsies set off into their assigned groups and walked down their assigned road. "Are any of you guys actually trying to look...I feel like this was a really stupid idea, there's something we gotta do that's more efficient. I mean, time is ticking." Kelson said while he, Davey, and Jake wandered Ocean Drive. "No, but swinging a flashlight around is fun! Reminds me of Velma from Scooby-Doo" Jake said. "Oh yeah, totally!" Kelson added. "Hey guys, there's a trailer park up ahead! Why don't we shine our lights into random people's trailer houses and then run for it?" Davey suggested. "Oh yeah, I'm down for that." Kelson said. "Come on, let's go!"

9:30 pm

It's been over 30 minutes, and Kelson, Davey, and Jake were still messing around. "Hey, Davey, I dare you to walk up to that trailer, touch the door, then run back as fast as you can." Kelson said. "Uhh, okay," he responded. "Come on, Jake will go up with you." Davey and Jake slowly walked up to the house, and then stepped onto the wooden porch. Davey approached the door cautiously, clearly touching it, then ran back. The entire trailer shook as Davey and Jake ran off back to Kelson. "The whole thing shook when we ran off!" Jake said. "Shh, hide in here back behind the bushes, I see someone coming out!" Kelson quickly warned. They all three hid together behind the bushes. Davey rested his head on Jake. The person who came out to see what all the commotion was--was Spot.

"Shhh!" Kelson shushed them both from their shock. "Stay down here, we gotta wait for him to get back inside." Kelson immediately called up Jack. "Hello?" "Jack, you gotta come quickly, we found the place where Spot and Mary are hiding Sarah and Les," Kelson said. "Wait, what if that's not really where they're hiding them, we don't know for-" Davey tried saying, but was interrupted by Kelson putting his finger over his mouth, motioning him to be quiet. "I'm comin' over there right now, I'll let the others know," Jack responded. "Good, I'll share my location with you, so just ping it and you'll find where we are. Thanks." Kelson said and hung up the call.

"Alright, you two bozos be quiet. We are not gonna get caught because of your guys' foolishness." Kelson said sternly. "That's my brother and sister, we don't have time, we can at least try to sneak in?" Davey said. "No Davey, we can't do that. It's for our own sake." Kelson responded. "Who the hell cares? They're my younger siblings, it's my natural job to look out for them! If I don't have them, I don't know who I am anymore." Davey said. Jake looked offended. "You too, Jake." Davey smiled. "Okay, you did make a point there. I have to admit, you're wicked smart, kid. Sorry about all that." Kelson said while patting Davey on the back. "Alright, we'll all approach the house by the sides, and I'll find a window to climb through to let you guys know if it's safe." Kelson instructed. "Where are you gonna go after that?" Jake asked. "Oh, I'll probably find something to hide behind. Don't worry, I got this. It's my turn now to take on all the hits for you guys if that scenario were to happen." Kelson said. "Alright guys, let's do this. For our dear family."
