Mad Happy

After Hannah leaves to get changed (and grab my pretzel) I'm left alone for the first time all day. I lay down on my bed and sprawl out, stretching in the cozy crisp bed sheets. I roll around a bit with a smile on my face and feel happiness like a child at the beach for the first time —pure excitement and euphoria. I feel so proud of telling Hannah how I feel, and now the weight on my shoulders dissipates.

I toss my head back onto the plush pillow and stare up at the ceiling, reflecting on the day. I let out a smooth and steady breath and say out loud, "I'm so grateful." While laying in this perfect state of comfort, I turn my head to get a glimpse of the night sky getting darker. I see a cluster of storm clouds pass by, and remember what was said today on set about the possibility of a storm coming.

Suddenly, thunder thuds and the only thing I can think of is Hannah, and how she isn't back yet. Worry begins to flood into my brain and I spring up from bed to grab my phone, at that moment realizing I don't even have her number. As I stare at my screen wondering what to do next, I get a stream of texts from Paris:

"Hiya my precious! Hope you're having a good night and that your dinner was...... rejuvenating"

...

"The storm they were calling for is starting to move in already, so it will force us to have tomorrow off. We'll pick up shooting the following day, so enjoy your day off!"

...

"If you need anything at all, you know I'm in the room to your right, I'll be here"

...

"But I think the guest in the room to your left is a better fit ;-)"

...

"Goodnight

Xoxoxo, Paris"

Without hesitation, I get out of bed and sprint to open my door so I can go check on Hannah. As I swing open the door, I jump back from being startled at the person standing in my doorway. Hannah is there in her sweatsuit and my pretzel, with her other hand in a paused fist that was about to knock on my door.

"Hannah, hi, oh my God, whew okay, you're okay," I embrace her tightly.

"Yeah, um, MadHappy, actually." She laughs at her own clever sweatsuit pun and hugs me back.

"You good?" She asks with a raised eyebrow while she hugs back, "I wasn't gone long."

"Yeah, but I was worried. Didn't you see the text from Paris?" I question.

"No, my phone has been inside my bag in my room the whole time, what did she say?"

"Well, first thing's first, during all of this I realized I don't even have your number and I'll be needing that ASAP, please and thank you." I smile and continue, "but Paris texted about the storm they all mentioned today. It's predicted to be bad tomorrow, so we have the day off. Didn't you hear the thunder already starting?!" I take her hand to guide her out of the doorway to shut the door behind us, then we walk back into the room together.

"Oh... that was thunder? To be honest I thought it was just a couple in another room having a good time." We laugh together and sit down in my bed again." Here, take your carnival in a bag," She grins and hands me my soft pretzel, still warm. "Perfect," I kiss her nose and continue, "Thank you for my life-sized edible emoji."
