"Azar... Why am I struggling with waterbending so much?" Roku stood soaked head to toe in freezing ice water.
"You are a natural Firebender. Learning to allow yourself to flow through the motions and emotions of waterbending will be harder than the other elements." I speak gently to the man in front of me.
"Until I get this right I'm going to be soaked and cold every night." He crosses his arms.
"Come now, I think I know how to get past this blockage you are having. Let's get you dry first." I bend the water out of Roku's clothes and warm him using my firebending. He lets out a pleased sigh, "Feel better?"
"Much. Now can you help me?" Roku rubs his arms testing the dryness of his clothes.
"Follow me," I move out of Roku's small hut.
----------
"Uh Azar, why did you bring me to a door?" Roku points to the short round door.
"It isn't the door I led you to Roku. It's what is behind the door that I am meaning to show you." I open the door slightly with my airbending to show him. Inside was an oasis of sorts. Warm air and a round pond with two koi fish swimming in circles around inside.
"What is this place?" Roku crawls through the door and enters the oasis. He sheds his coat and touches the grass tenderly.
"Long ago, when the spirit world and the human world were connected this room was one of the portals. The portals were closed by the first Avatar, however, there is residual energy here." I move over to the koi pond and look at the two fish, "Hello, Tui and La."
"So you brought me here to get spiritual guidance to learn waterbending? Isn't that your job Azar?" Roku teases.
I look away from the fish and right at Roku, "While I do offer minimal spiritual guidance that is not my job Roku. And no. I brought you here because I thought you would feel better meditating in a warmer environment." I float over to the archway and place myself under it.
"Oh..." Roku blushes, "Yeah that makes sense,"
"Good. Now come sit down next to me and get ready to spend the next few hours meditating." I cock my head to the side and motion for him to join me.
"Ugh really? I want to sleep, Azar." Roku complains but sits down anyway.
"Didn't Gyatso teach you how to draw energy from meditation? Besides, I thought you didn't want to be 'soaking wet and cold' anymore." My voice gains an amused tone.
"Don't throw my words back at me Azar," He frowns, "And yes. Gyatso did teach me but that doesn't mean he did a good job at teaching me." Roku places his two fists together and closes his eyes in meditation.
A laugh leaves my throat. "You're lucky I hold dominion over you Avatar. I will get you a break for tomorrow Roku if you can hold a ball of water for a few minutes by the morning. How does that sound?" Roku's eyes fly open and he nods vigorously. "Good, now. Close your eyes and allow your thoughts and emotions to flow through you like a flowing stream..."
----------
My thoughts stir from the dream, no memory I had experienced. "Today's the day! Can you believe it? After all that time searching for a teacher, I'm finally starting earthbending! And this place... i-it's perfect! Don't you think, Sokka?" Soft voices fill the open air. The sun hadn't even risen yet and Aang was already up.
