A/N: Long chapter

"Alex.." - Mia walks up to him. "What happened? Who was she?"

"Uh.. She was my girlfriend.. I kind of hadn't broken up with her.. so I just did.." - Alex says slowly.

"So you.. you were dating both of us at the same time?" - she raises an eyebrow and crosses her arms on her chest.

"I dated her before my incident, so I wouldn't really say we were a couple after I woke up and didn't remember her at all" - he says. "I'll explain later, just don't be mad at me now" - he kisses her cheek and puts an arm around her waist.

"Fine.." - Mia sighs, looking at the direction Alex came from. She can't see Perrie from the crowd of people, but she's sure that Perrie didn't take the break up well. She saw it in her eyes when she saw them walking in hand in hand. She didn't have a clue Alex had started dating Mia.

Alex didn't know what to say and how to react when Perrie started crying hysterically. He knew that she was going to react like that but he just couldn't continue their relationship, or what's left of it. They weren't a couple anymore, they both knew that. Their love was one-sided, and only Perrie was trying to put up the pieces together and make it work. But Alex didn't want that. He wanted to start his life from scratch. He wanted to let go of the past and just live with what he can remember. Sadly, he didn't remember the love he had for her, so he needed to let go of her too. She lived a whole year without him, and as hard as it was for her, she managed to do it. She can do it knowing that he's happy and healthy now too, or at least that's what he thinks.

He doesn't hate her anymore. Even though he told her he did, it was just an emotional outburst, he had just woken up from the coma and didn't know how to react properly. And even though he has another girlfriend now, every night he went to bed thinking about Perrie. He couldn't get her out of his head the whole time, but he thinks that it's just because he's feeling guilty for hurting her the way he did, that it's because of the way he didn't know how to tell her that he doesn't love her and that he wants to end their relationship. He imagined the way she'd look at him with tears in her eyes and talk to him with her voice getting weaker and weaker, until she breaks down and isn't able to talk anymore. In reality, it was ten times worse. It tore his heart apart, maybe not as much as hers but it still hurt. But he did it for their own good. They need to move on. Too many bad things connect them, there's none good ones left.

"He left.." - Perrie whispers as she looks up from the ground.

It's dark and she's in the garden, sitting on the ground as everyone inside is having fun. Alex walked off and left her alone. The last kiss he left on her hand was something she'll remember forever. He did it so gently, so carefully, like he's broken a glass and then picks up and kisses the shards as if he'll cut himself. Is that a way of apologising for breaking her heart? Because it didn't work at all.

How is she going to stand up, go back inside and pretend like nothing happened until the end of the night? Talking to Alex and exchanging Mark's drugs weren't the only things she wanted to do tonight. She wanted to do something that will protect Alex forever, no matter the consequences. She doesn't even care what will happen to her anymore, all she wants to do is make sure that Alex is safe and healthy. She doesn't have another chance.

Perrie slowly stands up on her feet and dusts herself off. A few moments later, she hears somebody walking up to her, so she looks up and almost rolls her eyes at the sight of Mark.

"Perrie..? What happened?" - he asks, as if it's not obvious. It's funny how dumb he acts, and how she fell for it once.

"Well.. in case you didn't notice.. Alex has a new girlfriend.. which means that he just cheated on me again and broke up with me.." - Perrie forces a fake smile as she wipes away the tears that have started getting dry.
