Chapter 6

"Perrie.." - Jade says as she puts her hand on Perrie's shoulder. "It's late babe.. Maybe you should go home.." 

"I don't wanna go home.." - she protests. "I wanna be here when he wakes up.." 

"That might happen in a few days, we don't know for sure" 

"But I wanna be here.." 

Jade decides not to force her to leave. Nobody knows when Alex is going to wake up, it could be in five minutes or five days. Perrie won't be able to stay awake and next to him at one point, and as much as she hates it, she's scared that she might not be here when he opens his eyes after a whole year. 

"Alright.." - Jade sighs. "I'll have to leave now.. but I'll be here tomorrow. Feel free to call me if anything happens"

"I will, thank you" 

As soon as Jade leaves her alone with Alex, Perrie lets out a long breath. It's late but the lights in the room are still on. She stands up from the chair and starts walking around the room. Her phone starts ringing, and before she even sees who's calling her, she realises that she forgot to tell her mum that she's going to stay with Alex. And she guessed it, it's Debbie.

"Hey mum.." 

"Are you okay Pez?" - she asks. 

"Yes mum.. I'm alright.. I forgot to tell you, I'm with Alex.." - Perrie says. "I'll stay here tonight" 

"Nothing's wrong, right?" 

"No, he's fine. Although we're expecting him to wake up anytime now" - she says with a smile. "He's getting better" 

"That's great baby" - Debbie says. "I told you that everything is gonna be alright. It did take a while, but he's getting there" 

"He is.. And I'm honestly so happy about it. You don't have to worry about me" 

"I'm not worried, I know that you've got this sweetheart" 

"I do, good night, mum. Take care" - Perrie says. 

"Good night" 

She puts her phone back in her bag and sits on Alex's bed. There isn't much space, but there's enough room for her to sit down. She looks at his face and smiles slightly. He's sleeping peacefully, or at least that's what it looks like. Who knows if he's dreaming about something, if he can hear her.. She takes his hand like she always does and kisses it gently, the same way he used to kiss her hand when he held it. It's been a while since it last happened. 

Suddenly, she feels a light squeeze. She looks down at his hand and she can definitely feel him holding her hand tight. It takes her a few seconds to realise that he's moving his fingers. 

"Alex.." - she whispers. "Oh my God.. it's happening.." 

She looks back up at his face with a smile. Alex slowly opens his eyes and looks around. The only thing he can see is the ceiling, so Perrie stands up and goes closer to him. Her heart is beating faster than the time he kissed her for the first time. She's so nervous and excited.

"Alex.." - she tears up. 

He looks at her and stays silent for a few seconds. He just stares and observes her features. He's looking at her so differently though, but she doesn't really pay attention to that right now. The most important thing is that he's awake and alright. 

"Too close.." - he mumbles, letting go of her hand. 

"What..?" - she gets confused. He's wearing an oxygen mask, so she didn't quite understand him.
