This chapter is a bit shorter than the first two, but I'm trying to keep chapters around the same length throughout the book. Of course some exceptions will happen from time to time :)

Hope you enjoy Ascian's pov!

"-And then he just totally flipped over," the loud laugh our voices made echoed louder than we wanted to, making annoyed stares turn to us.

I turn back to Calian and look down to the soon-to-be-bread he is doughing.

Calian just happened to call my name when I was walking back from my archery training, saying he wanted to give me a free bread.

It's been half an hour since we started talking, the bread long forgotten.

"I hope you're not telling embarrassing stories about me," Calian's boyfriend, Dorian, comes outside with a friendly smile on his face, a new baked bread in his hand and a glass of water in the other.

"And," he kisses Calian's cheek. "You forgot the bread you were going to be giving Ascian."

The few people that are against the relationship in the bakery look over to us and give the happy couple disgusting looks. When they meet my sturdy stare they turn their heads away.

I hear a sigh behind me and look back at my childhood friend and his partner. Dorian gives me a small smile and I get his point he tries to give me.

'Don't bother, we don't care about their opinions.'

"Are they judging a lot here? And how is the marketing working? If they're not too personal questions."

"We get good money from the bread and other baked goods, judging people or not. And the stares don't stop them from coming here to buy the bread they need. It's either buying good bread with good prices or too expensive bread that tastes like rock," we all give out a small laugh.

"And usually they come here. They're not brave enough to comment on us out loud."

I give out a hum to Calian's answer.

"So how about that girl? Reyna was it?" By the roll of my eyes he can probably already guess my thoughts.

"Am I allowed to be honest?" Calian just furrows his eyebrows harder when he starts to focus on what I'm about to say while he at the same time does the last rolling of the dough.

"If there is any way to tell her that she is the epitomy of looking really smart, but has the stupidest moments, often, then she is exactly that." Dorian seems to choke on his water that he is drinking and puts his fist on his mouth. Either to stop the water from joking him or the laugh. Maybe even both.

"Smart in the way to find the dagger and to make good decisions while being chased down. Stupid in the way to see if the dagger is in one piece. Which it wasn't."
