Reyna explained to me what had happened that day with Weylyn while I was gone on my obligatory duties. I didn't really know what to feel.

I was happy for Reyna for meeting her brother after everything, but I was also a little protective and annoyed. Even if he was as careful as he could when he visited her, it doesn't mean a small mistake could be made and his tracks could have been tracked back to the hut.

And then what? Reyna gets arrested and in the worst-case scenario taken away from me by her life... I wouldn't be able to live with that.

Losing her... Would make me lose my own life. And if not that, sanity and my soul.

I tried not to think about the what ifs and scenarios that could have happened, because we live in the now and not in the past. What is done is done and it can't be changed. I'm just relieved he wasn't tracked back to the hut.

I wouldn't be able to see Reyna hurt once more, either physically or mentally. And that could have happened-

Stop yourself Ascian. It didn't happen, and it won't. Calm down.

My emotions are in all places, relieved, frustrated, annoyed, confused. The whole bunch.

After a week of my sulking and mood swings, Reyna did bring up the subject and talked me through it. We talked calmly, and went quiet when we got a little heated up. We listened to each other and heard what the other had to say, and then told our own feelings and side to it.

It helped a lot, we both understood each other and got to a compromise. Especially with Reyna's upcoming birthday and Weylyn's visitation that day.

She didn't want anything grand, just a celebration with her friends. Well with some of them. Calian and Dorian are very close with her and she was going to invite them, but I know she longs to ask Kace with. But she knows that won't be possible. He wouldn't be able to escape his hawks.

I've seen him in Asteria the times I've checked out the situation there. If he is on a horse, his guard is on the same horse. If he walks, they're no more than a meter away from his back.

Though if he would have been invited, I don't know how I would have been able to tell Reyna that maybe... It wouldn't be a good idea. He seems to have changed, for the worse. His eyes are cold, he doesn't ask questions when ordered to do something, and he just seems to be almost dead to the world.

Maybe they've brainwashed him. Who knows, maybe his fear of pain could lead him into snitching on Reyna's whereabouts... I don't want to believe that though.

But if it comes to it, Reyna is my first priority and I'll do everything to keep her from the pain of betrayal. That includes her best friend. A man can change from pain, and they can turn against the ones they've stood with before.
