The smell of the smoke is getting worse by the second. The closer to the top of the castle I am, the more smoke there is.

The gash over my eyebrow is leaking blood and I get up quickly while looking down at the guard that tried to slash my throat open.

I was very lucky to see him... But I have to find Ascian.

I look to my right and see the stairs leading up to the tower intersection. Ascian could be there or he could be somewhere else, hopefully not in the graveyard of stones.

I'm about to run to the stairs but halt when I hear sounds of feet running down the stairs. I pick up my sword and start running the other way while thinking about the fastest route to the tower.

I hear the pace of the guards after me and try to wipe off some blood from my eyelid so I can see more clearly and notice a hallway turning to the left. I quickly swoop in and stick to the wall while trying to slow down my breathing. Just when I breathe in, the guards storm forward and don't look in my direction.

I let my breath out and lower my hands to my knees, but I quickly stop when I hear one pair of feet walking my way.

So one of them decided to stay and look for me...

I quietly move to the other side and wait by the other wall for my cue. His slow faltering steps give me time to figure out a plan. My hair is starting to get sticky with sweat and blood, but I ignore it.

Finally I see his feet on the edge of the wall and quickly attack with my sword, but its power gets interrupted by the guards' surprised but fast-reflexed defense.

Ahh, this is one of the guards I taught a few years back. He was never really into fighting. We both knew that he would be better than the majority of the guards. That year's guards were lazy bastards.

His uncertainty on my attack gives me the upper hand. Especially when I know all of his upcoming moves, they're originally mine after all.

Our swords start a deadly dance with each other, slashing towards one another, making sharp collisions. While I'm confident with my moves and strength with the sword, the guard is hesitant and insecure.

Maybe it's the fact I am, was actually, his trainer and the king's personal assassin. The guard wasn't bad at fighting, he just lacked a lot of confidence in fighting.

Even if I am kind of feeling guilty for fighting against him, I still cut his swinging sword by clashing my weapon from the other side. My sword's strength has the guard's sword fly through the air where it lands blade-downwards on the carpet a few feet away from us.

He looks at me scared but still tries to reach for his hidden dagger from his belt. That makes me grin in amusement. Does he really think he can surprise me with that?
