Drapetomani (n)
An overwhelming urge to run awayEvelyn's POV
Monday morning rolls around faster than I could blink. I get dressed in a simple white pencil skirt and black top.
I let my dark brown hair lay naturally on my shoulders.
Looking up I see Dimitri in my room.
Not knowing he was there before I jump in fright.
"You scared me!" I huff.
"Well, I'm naturally terrifying." He smirks walking closer.
"You're not all that scary." I roll my eyes, lying through my teeth.
"For now." He chuckles. "We have to go."
I grab my bag and we head out the door.
When we reach his car, I go to pull the door open, and he smacks my hand away again.
"I open doors." He says.
"Such a gentleman." I joke.
I sit in the seat, and he closes the door.
While driving to Ricci Inc. I take the time to check him out more.
Any girl that he's ever loved is lucky.
Wait, stop Evelyn.
"What're you thinking about bellissima?" He asks.
[Beautiful]"N-nothing." Damn it.
He smirks. That stupid sexy smirk.
Mentally I kick myself. Why am I like this?
We drive in comfortable silence until we pull up to the building.
Drapetomani kicks in. My palms start to feel clammy and my heart races through my chest.
"It'll be okay. Don't be such a baby." Dimitri nudges my arm.
I roll my eyes, I'm not a baby.
Opening the door, I step out and follow him into the building.
Everyone's eyes turn to look at him and some girls even give him a flirtatious smile.
"Someone is popular." I mumble to myself.
"Damn straight." He says only loud enough for me to hear.
Of course, he's cocky, why wouldn't he be?
I follow him into the elevator and when the doors close, I grab onto the bar for dear life. I hate elevators.
He chuckles and my eyes shoot daggers into him.
"What?" I blurt.
"Calm down, if we did, you get to die with me." He winks.
"That'd be the worst thing ever." I joke.
He acknowledges it with a laugh.
"You'll be working as my secretary and assistant."
"What does that mean?" I ask.
He gets closer to me, and I take a few steps back until I'm at the wall and he's right in front of me.
"You'll record meetings and business decisions while also-" he gets closer, "you'll be doing as I say." He finishes whispering in my ear.
