Dimitri's POV
I couldn't help but let my eyes linger on Evelyn's ass on the way to the door. That little thong she had peeking through on her hip was enough to awaken me.
We follow my mother into the living room where we notice her father on the couch, his usual spot. "Hey Lyn, Dimitri, how're you two?" He smiles.
Eve rolls her eyes and flashes him a fake smile. I softly nudge her side and lean down to whisper in her ear.
"Be nice piccola. Let him try to be a father."
I don't want her to have any regrets. If her father were to die, she might hate herself for not speaking or spending time with him. She's already lost one parent and if her father wants to fight for them to have a relationship, she should let him.
"We're good. How're you?" She responds, making me conceal a smile. Poor girl has been through so much with this past year alone.
"I'm quite alright. Come! Have a seat." He pats the couch next to him.
Her big doe eyes look up at me then back at him. I can tell she doesn't want to do this, but I give her a small nudge forwards until she plants herself next to him.
Her father smiles when she sits next to him. He's really not a terrible guy, she's just had a terrible impression of him.
I sit next to her and put my arm over the top of the couch, I won't leave her to be alone with him since she looks so uncomfortable.
"So, tell me how life has been." Her father turns to her, fully invested in having a conversation.
"It's uh, it's been good. I've just been working and saving money." She says quietly.
"When will I meet that boyfriend of yours?" Her eyes go wide as she sucks in air. I forgot they knew she had a boyfriend myself.
"We broke up." She says while looking at her fingers, picking the skin next to her nail.
"Broke up? What happened?" His voice is laced with concern.
She looks at me as if she's begging for help. "She doesn't like talking about it, they just weren't right for each other." I step in and give her the answer she's looking for.
Her father nods as if he's saying that he understands.
After some time, more people begin to arrive. Random people that I couldn't give two shits about.
"You hungry?" I ask Eve knowing we both didn't eat lunch.
"Starving. I think I might die." She jokes as she places the back of her palm onto her forehead.
"We better get you some food stat then." I smile and offer my hand to help her off the couch.
We go into the spacious kitchen which is full of foods. On the left side of the kitchen, on a small table were the finger foods such as deviled eggs, bruchetta, chips, cheeses of multiple kinds, crackers, meats like salami and pepperoni. On the opposite side, there is the sweets. Evelyn almost immediately spots the cookies. Alongside the cookies there is cannoli's, struffoli, and apple pies.
"What's that?" She points to the struffoli before we pass it.
"It an Italian treat. Struffoli. It's like little fried dough balls with honey. Some people put sprinkles and powdered sugar, but we usually just use honey."
