Dimitri's POV
Eve is being hard on herself, a lot harder than I was. I don't know why I keep comparing her to me. I was raised around this shit, she wasn't.
While we eat our lunch at this tiny cafe, I can't help but admire her. She's stronger than she believes she is. Yeah she's going through a hard time right now, but she's not giving up.
When we finish our lunch, I take her on a small walk back to the cottage.
My dad designed this safe-house three years before he died. He wanted to take my mother here for a small getaway but he became too busy then sadly passed.
"That was so good. I'm stuffed." Eve grumbles while holding her stomach.
Cute. "Let's relax then. We don't have anything going on for a few weeks." I smile as she plops on the couch.
We sit and watch TV for a few hours, making jokes about the way Australian's speak, and making jokes about how we came somewhere warm since it's cold where we live for now.
I know she wants to eventually go back to where she lived with her mom. I hate she had to leave it behind, but I love that she did because if she didn't, I would've never met her.
I saw in her diary, which I was a dick for reading, that she plans to buy it back one day. That's why I bought it for her. It can always be a place she can call home.
At the picnic I was going to return the homes key to her, but those Russian assholes ruined the whole thing. I have to come up with a new way to surprise her with it. I brought the key here just in case I find out how to tell her.
There many things I need to figure out how to tell her. Three little words with big meaning flash in my head every time I see her.
***
A week rolls by quickly. We haven't done much since this town is so tiny, but it's been nice to just be with her all the time.
Only a week left in this little shack. I think she likes it though.
Almost everyday she goes outside and looks at all the flowers, she's even picked some to keep in a vase in the kitchen.
Every night we go outside and lay on the ground to watch the stars. It's become something she loves just as much as I do.
"Dimitri!" Eve yells from outside.
I quickly jump off the couch and run out the front door. They can't be here. How could they find us?
Just as I turn the corner, I see her holding a baby rabbit in her hands. It's black, almost so black it looks sort of blue. The little thing can't be older than a few weeks.
"Can we keep it? Please?" Her honey brown eyes widen as she gives me her best pout.
Fuck, how do I say no to that? I honestly don't care much for animals, but for her, I guess I can make an exception.
"Let's bring it to a vet then." I chuckle and wave towards the car I rented under a false name.
She holds the baby rabbit in her arms as I buckle her seat belt for her. I wish she'd look at me the way she looks at that damn thing.
"Do you think it's a boy or a girl?" She asks as she strokes its head. The rabbit relaxes in her arms.
"I think it's a girl." I smile.
"Me too! Let's come up with names!" She suggests excitedly.
I didn't ever think I'd visit Australia then come home with a rabbit. I have no idea on how to even take care of a tiny beast like that.
