Evelyn's POV

Stravage

(Verb) Struh- veyg

To wander aimlessly.

Thick, awkward air fills the dining room. We've been sitting here for five minutes, and nobody has said a word.

My dad enters the room and sits in the seat across from me. A small smile plays on his face as he notices me.

"How're you sweetie?" He asks.

I grab a dinner roll from a basket and rip it open to spread some butter on it. "I'm alright. How're you?" I ask trying to be nice.

"I'm great. What's been going on in your life, catch me up."

An audible sigh escapes my lips. He never cared before, so why now? Back then, I would've done anything to tell my dad about my good grades or about how badly I wanted a dog. But now all I want is for him to just leave me alone.

"She has a boyfriend." Dimitri answers for me with a smirk.

My stomach drops as all eyes turn to me. Charlotte glares at Dimitri with a fork full of chicken.

"Oh really? I'd love to meet him, what's his name?" My dad asks happily.

"I'd also love to meet him." Dimitri adds.

I look at Charlotte with a scared smile. Please, please help me.

"I'm sure it's nothing serious." Charlotte tries to help.

I take my roll and stuff a big chunk into my mouth, I can't speak if my mouth is full.

"If it becomes serious, will you let me meet him, Lyn?" My dad asks as I chew my roll painfully slow.

His eyes tell me he's serious with the sad expression behind them. I understand if he's trying to make up for not being there for me as a child, I know I'm not making it easy either.

I slowly nod and watch as a content smile grows on his stubbled face.

Dimitri clears his throat gaining my attention.

He sips a small amount of wine from his glass and shoots me a wink. I look between our parents to see if they are in fact seeing the same thing I am, but their oblivious.

"Sei carino con la bocca piena." Dimiti whispers.

{You're cute with your mouth full."}

I scan him curiously. I wonder what he said, I always wonder what this dumbass says.

A phone ringing causes me to jump in my seat. Stupid ringer. I follow where the sound is coming from and land on Dimitri's pocket.

"A moment please, e lavoro." He excuses himself from the table.

{it's work.}

Dimitri leaves the room and leaves me alone with two people I don't even like.

"Has he been working a lot lately?" Charlotte asks.

I nod and take a tip of water. "I know he was out for a couple hours today before we came here." I spill the tea.

Fear flashes and disappears on her face fleetingly. I eye her curiously wondering why she seems upset by this news.

"Did he happen to mention where he went?" She tilts her head.
