Evelyn's POV
Mark is literally the exact opposite of what I thought he was. He's been cheating on me since the start. I'm not going to lie, it hurts, it hurts like a bitch. I thought we were good together until I found out that he was supposed to be my rival.
Dimitri is still asleep but his heart rate is elevated, it's a little creepy how he can hear me but I'm happy I don't have to explain what's going on.
"Well, I'm going to go get some breakfast. I'll be back." I sigh.
Once I make it to the kitchen, I get a group text from Kim and Raeni asking where I've been and if everything is okay. I quickly send them a text that says I'm fine and that I just needed a little while off to see my dad.
As I eat my cereal, the doctor runs into the kitchen with an ecstatic expression.
"He's awake!" He exclaims.
I abandon my bowl of cereal and follow him to Dimitri's room. Is he really awake? This better not be some kind of sick joke.
"I just took out his breathing tube, so his throat probably hurts. He might have a hard time-"
Banging noises cut him off. I look around to see where they're coming from and my eyes land on the door to Dimitri's room.
The doctor rushes in, speaking Italian.
I slowly follow the doctors footsteps into the room and Dimitri is standing, holding onto his IV drip with a pained expression on his face.
When his eyes meet mine, he freezes.
"Why are you standing? Please, sit down." I speed walk inside to help him sit down.
He sits on the edge of his bed, letting the doctor lift his legs so he can lay back down. He examines the wound on his thigh. Once he sees that it's good, he elevates the leg again.
"How're you feeling?" I ask.
His eyes scan me up and down, but he doesn't say anything. Okay, maybe it was a stupid question.
"Where's Antonio?" He asks the doctor.
"I'm not sure Don. He was here a while ago, but I haven't seen him since."
"Ha fatto questo." Dimitri's tone drops.
{He did this.}
The doctor's mouth hangs in shock while I sit in the chair, waiting for someone to explain what the hell is going on.
"Eve," Dimitri grabs my hand, "did Antonio say anything to you?"
"Like what?" I ask, confused by his question.
"Anything, amore mio." He responds softly.
I scratch the top of my head, hoping it'll help me think. "Oh! He said that him and his wife were moving. That's why he can't be here as much." I smile, feeling kind of sad that his friend hasn't been here for him as much as a friend should be.
"I'm going to get you some food and water." The doctor dismisses himself.
I smile at Dimitri, happy that he's finally awake and he's okay. He's okay!
"You've been here the whole time?" He asks with raised eyebrows.
"The whole time." I confirm.
The corners of his lips curl upwards into a small smile, causing me to smile back because it's contagious. How can someone look so perfect after being in the hospital for over a week.
