Burble (v)
To speak in an excited manner.

Evelyn's POV

I leave "my" room and shut the door behind me. I'm not even hungry, I should just stay in the room.

As soon as I turn around my dad spots me.

"Hey sweetie, how about we talk?" He asks in a hopeful tone.

Turning around I see his eyes; they remind me of my own. Not in color but in feeling. They hold secrets behind them that need to be released.

"I guess." I walk towards him.

We walk into the living room; I look around for Charlotte but she's not around.

"She's setting the table." He states like he's reading my mind.

I nod and sit across from him. Out of all the things I ever wanted to say to him since he left has blanked out of my brain, I want to say so much but at the moment I'm speechless.

"Did you cheat?" I boldly ask.

He looks down at his feet. "I did." He admits.

I already knew the answer, I just wanted to hear it from him.

Taking a minute to look around the room I notice pictures on the wall of him and Charlotte, even the wedding pictures. Their also some random people, I wonder if one is my stepbrother.

"Your mother and I... we got married at a young age-" he uncomfortably shifts in his seat, "I made a mistake and we tried to work it out, but we couldn't. When I left, she told me to never come back." He rubs the palm of his hands on his face.

"Why didn't you ever call me, text me, hell even write me?" I throw my hands up.

"I tried. She wouldn't let me."

My mom would've never done that, she would've never kept me away from my dad if she didn't have to.

"Like I'm going to believe that." I say nonchalantly standing up being done with the conversation.

"Wait-" he grabs my arm softly, "I'm telling you the truth. I swear I'm not trying to speak poorly of your mom...but we both made mistakes sweetie."

Well, your mistakes fucked up my life. I had to go around watching every little girl in my school make cards for Father's Day or talk about how much they love them. I had to pretend I didn't care.

But I grew to not care, I got used to not having a dad.

As soon as I pull my hand away from my dad's there's a strong knock on the door.

"He's here!" Charlotte burbles.

Staying with my feet planted on the ground Charlotte runs to open the door.

When she opens it, my jaw physically drops.

There's the most handsome man I've seen in my whole life, so handsome that comparing him to a Greek god would be an insult.

She engulfs him into a hug which he slightly returns with a pat on her back then his eyes meet mine.

Quickly I shut my mouth. Damn, I must've looked stupid. Great start Evelyn.

I take a second and examine him further. His Jett black hair lays perfectly on his head looking soft enough to sleep on. His hazel eyes make my knees weak, but I quickly find a solution and lean on the arm of the couch, as he steps closer, I can see his green and blue irises become more intense. With a jawline so sharp it could cut through my soul. He even had a perfect body, with muscles bulging through his white shirt.
