Evelyn's POV
"What's your game Eriks!" Dimitri yells as he pulls me closer to him as another shot goes off inside the warehouse.
"Your men decided to join you Mr. Ricci." Eriks laughs.
Dimitri looks behind him and he whispers something in his native language. Probably a swear.
"Why are your men shooting mine?" Eriks asks with a cocked smile on his face.
Dimitri's hold on my arms gets rougher as he leads me further into the back of the room. "Stay. I have to go out there and fix this." He demands.
In a fit of fear, I nod and watch him leave my side.
Eriks smiles at me before following Dimitri out the door, leaving me alone.
Guns continue to bang loudly into my ears which only makes my heart race.
I hear men yelling from all four corners of this small room. I can't tell what any of them are saying. It feels like my head is swimming. Is this really real? I pinch my arm harshly, feeling the pain run across my skin. Fuck, this is real.
My knees meet my chest and I cover my ears with my hands. I don't want to hear this anymore. It's so loud and it's making my ears ring. I take deep breaths and to to focus on my happy place.
I've been waiting for what seems like hours. I don't hear guns anymore; it's been mostly quiet for a few minutes.
I crawl up to the door and slowly unhinge it from its frame. The previous smells before are now covered with the smell of metallic blood.
With shaky knees, I stand from the ground and walk as close to the wall as I can.
Two hands grab the back of my shoulders, making me gasp.
"Hush. Let's go." Dimitri pulls me down the hallway.
He checks every corner before we make it to the exit.
When the fresh outside air hit my face, I feel my stomach curl. Audible grumbles leave my stomach as I hunch over and vomit over the sidewalk.
Dimitri leans down and catches my hair before it gets caught up in the vomit. His free hand rubs and gently pats my back in efforts to help.
"I'm sorry," I choke, "I think it's because all the nasty smells then the smell of blood really fucked me up." I try to laugh but instead, more vomit runs up my throat.
"You're okay piccola." Dimitri soothes.
I nod and sit on my knees until I feel a little better. My stomach is sore, and my chest hurts from the force that was used. I stand up with shaky knees and let Dimitri help me to the car.
Embarrassment courses through my body. He saw vial things fly out of my mouth and he definitely saw it. Ugh!
"You did good." He comments as we drive down the road. "You didn't lead him to our place, you didn't lead him to our hideout. You should've called me though."
"Mark noticed a car that kept making circles around the coffee shop we were in. We went back to his place and the same car was parked a few spots down. I had a feeling that I needed to get away from Mark since he can't know. So, I went to the grocery store and pretended to shop, I was just about to dial your number when Eriks caught me."
He gives me a small nod before looking back at the road.
"Thanks. You know, for saving me or whatever." I look out the window and see the world shooting by.
