Evelyn's POV
The packing of Dimitri's wound was vomit inducing. I tried my hardest to keep my cool and I think, well, I hope I did a good job. The doctor pulled this white packing out of his bullet hole and it was all bloody and gross looking. For the first time, I saw the damage that was done. His poor leg was healing great but the hole was deep, and still an open wound.
I expected the doctor to stitch him up, but instead he left it alone and said that he's healed everywhere except for the skin so he was going to leave it open.
I cringed at the thought of anything getting inside the hole. What if he accidentally sticks his finger in there? I mentally vomit.
He's so strong, he didn't flinch once! I was the only one looking away and flinching at the sight.
On the way to our parents house, we listened to music. He gave me the opportunity to play whatever I wanted so I played a ton of The Weekend, much to his dismay. He didn't like any of the songs I put, but I liked them and he liked that I liked them.
His mom was as always, overly happy to see us. Dimitri must have been a momma's boy as a kid, unless she's just a crazy mom.
"I hope you're feeling better Evelyn. I'm sorry I couldn't bring you any soup. My boy said he had it handled. He took care of you, right?" Charlotte asks as we sit in the living room together.
My eyes widen from being caught off guard. He sure did take care of me, my mind blurts. I mentally knock myself out from having such unclean thoughts. "Yeah! He uh- he took care of me just fine."
"You were sick?" My dad asks from his chair.
"Yeah, I think it was just a head cold." I lie.
Dimitri has the look of amusement in his eyes. He better keep his mouth shut! This isn't funny!
My dad lifts from his chair and stammers over to place his hand on my head. "Are you sure sweetie? You feel a little warm." My dad asks.
Damn it!
"I had the heat blasting in the car. That's probably why." Dimitri helps me.
My dad nods and returns to his chair while Charlotte watches him adoringly. The more I think about it, the more Charlotte makes sense. They seem happier together than him and my mom did.
We all decide to put a movie on, it's something to do with dinosaurs. It's not very interesting but everyone else seems to be into it.
"Not a fan of the stegosaurus?" Dimitri whispers jokingly.
"I'm not nerdy enough to like this." I whisper back.
He puts his hand over his heart like I've hurt his feelings. "Ouch. I think you owe me an apology."
"In your dreams."
Dimitri slips his hand onto my leg. I quickly look around, seeing our parents fully entranced by the movie on the flat screen TV.
"They're old, just be quiet and they won't hear." He smirks dangerously.
My head shakes from side to side. Absolutely not! It's way too risky.
"You're scared?" He chuckles.
"No, I'm just not stupid." I softly laugh.
He removes his hand from my leg, respecting my wishes.
I yawn multiple times throughout the move, but nobody notices Dimitri scooting closer to me. He wraps his arm around my shoulders and pushes my head to lay on his shoulder. My heart swells with gratitude. How could I ever become this lucky?
