Evelyn's POV

Dimitri told me he'd be gone for a few days, I didn't expect it'd be this long. He hasn't shown up for work so I've just been borrowing one of his cars until he comes back.

Work is weird without him there, who am I supposed to assist when he isn't there? I've just been rescheduling appointments, writing messages down for him, and doing the normal everyday paperwork.

May has been a big help. She comes over every night for a few hours to keep me company. Whenever I ask her to tell me what's going on, she just says that it isn't her place to say and to just wait for Dimitri to come back and ask him myself.

I just got home from work so I'm making my famous cereal for dinner. He's not here to judge me for my childlike appetite so why not.

May had some things to do tonight so after a bunch of apologies, she finally understood that I'd be okay. If I need anyone, I can call Raeni or Martin to come to my rescue.

After I eat my cereal, I take a long hot shower to wash the day off then hop into bed.

It's been four days since he's left. It can't be that much longer, right?

Hours pass of me scrolling through Pinterest before my eyes finally burn enough to sleep.

Throughout the night, I toss and turn. I wonder what Dimitri is doing and if he's alright. My gut tells me to freak out and try to find him, but my brain keeps trying to rationalize things, saying things like he's just fine and this is just his job, it's expected for him to be gone for periods of time.

I finally get to sleep around three in the morning and my alarm wakes me up at five.

My feet move slowly towards the vanity in my room. The mirror shows the small dark bags under my eyes. Nothing concealer can't fix!

Blotting my beauty blender under my eyes and all around my face and my bags still slightly show through. Good for nothing makeup. I thought full coverage meant it'd fully conceal the dark and baggy demons under my eyes.

I throw on a simple black blouse with maroon slacks and black heals. I dress it up a little with hoop earrings and a maroon belt around my waist.

Looking in the mirror, I unbuckle the belt and throw it on the floor. How did I think that was a good idea?

On the way to work, I stop off at a drive through to get a sausage biscuit before getting to work. Sausage trumps bacon any day.

Once I get to work, I say hi to the three people I no longer work with but miss working with dearly and head up to my desk.

Work breezes by. It seems like for the past few days has been dragging on but not today. I gather the keys and tidy up my desk before driving home.

Once I pull up to the house, the lights shine through the windows. He's finally home?

I speedwalk through the door, almost tripping through the thresh hold.

I immediately notice Dimitri on the couch with his elbows on his knees and his hands covering his face. He seems a little thinner than usual.

"Dimitri?" I call softly, I don't know if he's heard me come in so I don't want to scare him.

His head lifts from his hands as he looks in my direction. The greenish blue iris' are surrounded by red, bloodshot veins. Bags sit under his eyes, telling me he hasn't really been sleeping.

"Are you okay?" I sit next to him with my hand on his back.

A little sniffle is his response. My heart sends a sharp ache to my chest. "Do you want to talk about it?" I ask as I feel the cold skin on his arm. I quickly grab a small throw blanket and throw it over his shoulders in attempt to warm him up.
