Chapter 2

"The Business Trip"

Lalisa Met Irene during her second year in Yale University. They were the two top students in their department of Business Administration. They used to study together.

Irene was the first girl to courageously walk up to face Lisa and confess her feelings to Lalisa and she accepted Irene. Back then, a lot of girls and boys hit on Lisa and when Lisa found out that irene liked her. She didn't hate or find Irene unpleasant, Lisa agreed and they began a relationship.

In their entire two years together as lovers, Lisa did everything she needed to do as a girlfriend. There was even one time, Irene's period came and the cramps was so severe that she had to call Lisa in the middle of the night to send her to the hospital.

Lisa had been so scared then that she promised to treat irene even better. She bought her everything she asked for and never once reprimanded her for the way she spent Lisa's money.

Lisa only knew that she loved Irene with all her heart and refused to see through her scheme. Off course, the Irene back then was so innocent that Lisa always thought she could never hurt a fly, but She was wrong. Lisa shouldn't have trusted her.

All the while Irene was with Lisa, it was to gain access to her cousin Leo Manoban, whom she claimed to really love after Lisa caught them together that night.

The following day, Irene had come to Lisa's apartment to tell Lisa that she was with her to get access to Leo Manoban as Leo was the one Irene truly loved. Her betrayal had hurt Lisa so much then that she practically shut herself to anyone except the girl in ward 003 whom she only currently knew as Jennie Ruby Jane Kim from her name card which was in her bag at the time of the accident.

After almost killing someone because of Leo Manoban and Irene Bae. Lisa had wanted nothing to do with them. Lisa didn't bother them and minded her business but, that was not the same for the other two people who betrayed Lisa. Especially, her cousin Leo Manoban.

Leo had always seen Lisa as a threat. Snatching everything Lisa had, has always been what Leo was good at. Leo had always had a rather low self esteem and a great feeling of insecurity which steamed from his obsession of getting everything done his way. Things must be done his way or else the opposition was an enemy.

Now that those two were together, Lisa couldn't seem to think of a much better word to express her feelings but the sentence 'A match made in heaven'

One was a jealous man who thought life was unfair to him and the other was a woman who betrayed her because of the latter.

Smiling to herself, Lisa's mind wandered back to the girl in ward 003. The fact was, Lisa knew nothing about the girl she had become over familiar with other than her name.

She had been in coma after the surgery and Lisa had searched almost everywhere just to find out who Jennie was and where her family were. It was almost like she didn't exist in any part of the country or maybe her identity was securely hidden by whoever sent her to him that night.

Jennie had run into Lisa's car and she had run over her five years ago. Five years had passed and yet Lisa could not locate or find anything about her. She was a mystery that Lisa couldn't wait to solve but that could only happen if she ever woke up.

Lisa lazily swapped her phone screen and a picture of her and the girl as the wallpaper greeted Lisa. She looked longingly at the girl she had suddenly become attached to through the years of reading stories and chatting casually to.

The picture was taken impulsively one day after Lisa went to the hospital after work. She had been so tired and stressed out that day but as soon as Lisa saw the girl's mouth curved as if she were smiling, Lisa wanted to save that image of her forever and decided to take a closed up photo of herself leaning closer to the girl. It was so beautiful that Lisa used it as her screen saver then.

The doctor had recommended that Lisa spent time reading and speaking to her two years after the incident. At first, it was weird to her. Reading a story or talking to a person who obviously couldn't hear or see you was something Lisa never thought was possible.

She had seen some of these type of situations on TV and even heard of it before but, when it came down to her, she found it ridiculous but yet still went ahead to do it anyway.

Now, closing from work and going to the hospital to tell Jennie about Lisa's day and work was somewhat making her happy. She found herself telling Jennie about her work, her challenges, her likes and dislikes and literally everything about herself.

Lisa didn't feel tired talking to the unconscious girl about anything and it seem more naturally now than before. Plus, she enjoyed doing it for Jennie and she also found healing through it.

After a long day, the only place Lisa could relax and let her guard down was at the ward of this girl and Lisa enjoyed every time she spent with her. Thinking about it now, Lisa knew she was going to miss Jennie during the business trip this time.

Lisa was going to miss seeing Jennie's face. She was going to miss reading to her. She was going to miss telling Jennie about her day and the kind of things she did. Lisa smiled and thought that she really needed to finish this impromptu issue that had cropped out and return to Jennie's side sooner.

Not for the girl but for her own sake. She couldn't afford to miss Jennie's presence for so long anymore. Jennie was a major fixture in her life now. A permanent fixture and Lisa knew she would do anything to keep Jennie safe by her side. Unknowingly, Lisa had claimed ownership of the young girl.

"Jennie Ruby Jane Kim" Lisa murmured the name before coming back to her senses and realised her secretary was speaking to her.

"Bambam, what did you say? I didn't hear you just now" Lisa asked.

"Boss, Miss Chaerin Lee called you this afternoon. She apologized for the sudden change in venue and time and asked that you give her a call" Bambam said to Lisa as she drove towards the airport.
