Aspirations
Chapter 23"You started without me," you said in a playfully grumpy tone as you marched over to where Vlad King was.
Most of the first years were gathered in the surveillance area along with their respected teachers. You could hear a fight echoing off in this distance. If you weren't mistaken it sounded like Bakugo's delicate voice in the distance yelling at everyone.
"You're late," Vlad King pointed out as he stared at you through his visor.
"Not my fault you guys started so early. Besides I only found out about, uh...an hour ago. I had to finish up some paperwork and clean up before I could get out to the field?"
"Eraserhead was supposed to have told you days ago."
"Days?" You asked in disbelief as you looked towards Aizawa momentarily.
He had made it seem like the exercise had been decided right before school began. What was worse was that as he pretended to ignore your stare, you watched as a sort of sadistic grin appeared on his face. From what you could tell it may have had more to do with your aunt than with you though. She seemed awfully affected by the news. She had expressed a dislike of Aizawa springing the event on her back in the office. If looks could kill, Aizawa would be six feet under ground now.
Huh.
You couldn't help but wonder what was going on there. Why was Aizawa seemingly determined to annoy your aunt?
As you tried to piece together the silent war between Aizawa and Recovery Girl, you paid attention to the boards set out for viewing. One kept the score and other two had surveillance cameras set up. With how large the screens were even the small sections, from how it was split up between the different cameras, were the size of large TVs.
Bakugo's match was brief. From what you could tell the groups were given 20 to do something with 4 people. His team ended it all in 5 minutes. You figured it had something to do with putting the other team in jail.
"Flawless victory," you said in a slightly dramatic voice.
Not that Vlad King appreciated it. After all, Bakugo's victory marked a loss for his class.
"Flawless?" Monoma piped up from beside his teacher. "Hardly! Did you see how reckless he was?! How aggressive?! Hardly fitting to be a hero!"
"Did you see how smoothly the team worked together?" You shot back. "Cause I got here at the last minute and I could even tell they blew it out of the park. They got the job done even with Bakugo being a little shit. Personally I think the quicker a hero can work the less casualties or victims there ends up being. Not to mention they can solve multiple issues in a day if they're being efficient."
The blond did not like your assessment. Neither did his teacher. Vlad King's fanged frown pressed tighter at the corners of his mouth. His arms crossed over the large expanse of his chest. You patted his elbow with a reassuring smile.
"There's still another round for 1B to overtake 1A, chill. Besides getting their asses handed to them now so they can learn about their weaknesses is better than doing it in the field right?"
He nodded. He still didn't look happy about it but at least he agreed with you. You stayed by the big grumpy boy as The groups started to switch out. You watched as the blond with an inferiority complex started off, end tails fluttering in the breeze.
"Monoma!" You called out, suppressing a laugh. "Break a leg!"
The inside joke made Monoma laugh as he walked off and it finally got a wicked looking smile out of Vlad King. The blood manipulator put a hand on your shoulder after a couple pats as you and he went back to watching the screens like hawks. All of which Aizawa was witness to; none of which he was exactly thrilled about.
