Aspiration
Chapter 75

The atmosphere as you and he walked away from the lady in charge was a little stiff compared to what you'd so quickly gotten used to with Hawks; too quickly some might say. In the span of fifteen minutes, Hawks had seemed to do a 180 in his attitude. He'd gone from trying to keep you naked with him in the closet of a break room to this silent agent of the commission beside you. Though you supposed, as the elevator started, that it hadn't been a complete turn about. He'd kept in physical contact with you through almost the whole debrief. It was just at the end, after he'd been told to report in, that he'd turned all cold fish on you. The tense air did make you nervous as you followed the hero you'd tied yourself to for the foreseeable future.

The elevator stopped. And you were surprised that it wasn't on either the top floor for rooftop access or the bottom floor. You tried to remember where that break room was but you'd been a little too preoccupied to pay heed. Though something in your gut told you that you were close. Looking at Hawks didn't really give you any clue though as he seemed as cool as a cucumber.

The avian hero did not lead you to the small room from earlier. Instead he led you to an area that looked a little bit like a clothing store. On ons wall various button up shirts, pants, and skirts were displayed with an array of sizes stored neatly underneath. The connected back wall was much the same with athleisure wear. The farthest wall was dedicated to all the undergarments anyone could need. Meanwhile the middle of the room was filled with shelves of common items - storage bags, a selection of practical shoes, travel sized hygiene kits and other necessary things.

You suddenly felt far too seen in this room. Other than the business clothes side, you felt like you'd walked into a boring snapshot of your life.

"Take what you'll need for a week."

"Huh?"

You must have sounded so intelligent at that moment when you'd turned to look at him in confusion. But in your defense you'd been rather distracted with trying to take in that the Hero Public Safety Commission had its own mini department store. The room was big enough to have been big enough to fit about 3 shops in the standard mall. And while it hadn't been filled to the brim, there was still plenty of stock.

"We have to be at the airport soon. Seeing as we're going to America, and this is going to be a world wide precision strike, we'll probably need to be the first ones shipped out. Which means you won't have time to collect anything from U.A. Good news is that you should find almost everything you need for a couple days here," he filled you in as he walked along the wall connected to the door.

You just noticed that it seemed to be dedicated to a couple different heroes specifically. There was even a recessed display with a mannequin dressed in Hawks' full gear, minus a replication of his wings to conserve space of course. Hawks grabbed a rather nondescript duffle bag on his way towards his own dummy. You blinked and awkwardly grabbed  one of the standardized rolling luggages.

It felt so odd to be picking out a couple basic changes of clothes from what you assumed was meant as an emergency closet for proheroes. Sure you had your license in your pocket now but it still felt unreal. Not in a bad or good way - just that nothing had quite settled into place yet. So to be picking out a small wardrobe for a world wide mission felt surreal. Once you'd gotten a week's worth of altheisure and underthings packed into the suitcase, you spoke out to the more self assured Hero.

"Any chance this building has a locker room? If we're going to be stuck on a plane for a day, I need to shower first."

Even though you'd taken a luxurious soak last night, today's activities with a certain hero had left you not feeling exactly spring fresh, to put it politely. You pushed your hair back out of the way to look towards Hawks as you tried to prompt an answer out of him with eye contact. You saw him nod but he was looking at you with a very attentive, warm expression. It was maybe half a step away from his bedroom eyes.
