Aspirations
Chapter 65You sat up from bed slowly. Every bone inside of your body told you to be wary. That danger was nearby. It was one thing for Hawks to abduct you while you were outside. Or even for him to return you to your room when you'd fallen asleep in the common room. But for him to have invaded your room while you were asleep felt completely wrong. Predatory. He knew you'd have been sleeping when he came. That you'd have been at your most vulnerable.
And he knew he'd have to wake you up. Yet he had invaded your space anyways. And for what? A talk?"Why?" You asked in a tired, groggy voice.
Everything that wasn't warning you about stranger danger wanted to go back to bed. Your head felt so heavy and your eyelids didn't want to stay open either. There had even been a bit of a dizzy spell that you'd faught through when you first went to sit up. Obviously you needed more sleep. So much so that you couldn't bring yourself to care if Hawks enjoyed the sight of your half asleep self. Which he did.
Not that he showed it of course. He kept his expression serious even though he took it all in like a dry sponge. It wasn't that you were dolled up. Nor were you dressed purposefully provocatively. In fact you looked a bit of a mess. You definitely had a version of bed head going on and your cotton pajamas were skewed on your body. But he could see your legs, skin reflecting a lot more of the almost imperceivable light than the fabric covering your upper thighs. And your top had ridden up so that some of your torso was on display. The cut down neckline went deep enough that if you'd been wearing a bra he'd have been able to see your cleavage. You weren't wearing a bra, that much only became clearer as you stood up from bed and fixed your apparel absentmindedly.
So despite the fact that he did his best to remain expressionless, Hawks mentally stumbled for a moment. He knew what he'd risked the mission for. He knew what he had wanted to tell you. But seeing you so normal and natural had hit him harder than he'd have thought. Especially when he thought about the fact that he could have seen you like this all the time if that damned miscommunication hadn't happened. Hawks couldn't imagine you being upset at him visiting whenever he wanted if you and he were having a kid together.
His eyes drifted down to your now covered stomach. Painful longing and regret hit him almost faster than he could fly. He'd meant to use last week as a way to undo the damage the commission doctor (traitor if he had any say in it) had done. But he'd come on too strongly too quickly. The feelings of your hands on his body though...he hadn't wanted to stop himself...
To be fair, that didn't seem like an isolated event. Because Hawks had a feeling he would have been ready to say 'fuck the mission' if you have any sign or indication of desire. The look of sleep anger was one of the dwindling things keeping him from doing something naughty. Again.
"Hawks," you snapped at him in a much deeper voice than your everyday one.
Hawks moved his half lidded eyes up to your face. The look in his eyes and the way he held himself really looked like he was getting ready to spring into action. Like a true predator. Too serious. Too hungry.
Flattering but it also pissed you off.
If he'd woken you up with the misguided idea that another attempt at talking would let him get into your pants...well Japan didn't need a number two hero that could breed.
"Endeavor is in danger," Hawks said slowly, quietly.
"What?"
The wings hero shifted in place. He closed his eyes for a moment and took a deep breath. You could hear his wings shifting over each other even if you couldn't see that well in the dark. When Hawks opened his eyes once more his predatory posture started to fade. It didn't leave entirely but enough so that it felt safe to move around without wondering if you'd land back on the bed.
