Chapter 58

"What the hell?!" You ground out to the face of your captor.

Hawks shifted you in his arms as he rose higher into the air. The multiple feathers which had been used to take you right off the ground in as comfortable a fashion as possible returned to their rightful place. Which meant that the only thing stopping you from going splat splat on the ground were two jacket clad arms. Though a sick part of you had the feeling that you'd survive the fall (and heal from it) if you aimed for the trees, the majority of you didn't want to experience that pain.

Which was why the moment you recognized who had taken you in the dark of the night, you stopped trying to asphyxiate and paralyze them. If it had been a stranger or known villain that had snatched you from U.A property then you would have needed to face the fall in order to escape them. As it was Hawks, you didn't think that was necessary.

The moment things seemed calm enough, Hawks had started to perform aerial maneuvers. Your heart sped back up in your chest as it felt like you were going to be dropped a hundred different times though nothing happened to you. His movements were quick and smooth, like a well oiled rollercoaster. You did notice that his wings were getting smaller than before during one of the rare times you'd been able to open your eyes.

Hawks shot up into the air, as high as it was safe for human bodies to go without assistance. It was a lot cooler up there which meant you had to fight the urge to bury into him for warmth. You looked up as he seemed to dial something on the side of his headphones. The buttons were all but invisible and he seemed to have dialed from a set combination rather than any actual number.

"Hey, sorry for the trouble. I was cruising too low when I picked up my girlfriend and pinged the school's defenses. I gained some altitude so can you call them off now? Seems a shame to waste all those resources for a small mistake."

You rolled your eyes and thumped your head against the confident pro-hero. He grinned and said his goodbyes to whoever it was at U.A he'd gotten a hold of. Most likely Hound Dog or Nezu. The former of whom you haven't actually met yet. You just knew that he was often in charge of security paroles. It would make sense if he was on patrol and thus in control of campus security tonight.

Hawks shifted you in his arms for a moment as some of his feathers returned from the security measures you hadn't actually seen. And with how hard your heart had been pounding during a majority of the time you hadn't heard anything either. Given that his wings seemed smaller than before, if only a little from what you could see, you would have to assume that the defenses had been very real.

Hawks put a lot of distance between you, he, and U.A before touching back down on the ground. Or, rather, on a branch. He straddled a thick branch and lowered you down until your legs were over one side of the branch and your bottom was just barely perched on it. The tree itself looked weathered, old and gnarled. Some of the large, outstretched branches, like the one you and he were sitting on, didn't even have leaves on it anymore. And that was just what you could see and feel in the nearly pitch dark atmosphere.

"Seriously, what the hell?" You repeated heatedly.

Hawks held up a finger which you could only see because he was so close to you. You glared at him the whole time he powered down his headset (you presumed that's what he was doing.) Hawks hung the headset and glasses up on a smaller branch above his and your head before making eye contact once again.

"I wanted to make sure that you were okay."

"By kidnapping me? There are easier ways."

He leaned back slightly at the venom in your voice. Given the situation he couldn't go too far though. "I tried calling. Many times in fact. You blocked me."
