Aspirations
Chapter 70
It had been a little tricky to guess an appropriate time at which to call Aizawa. You had to factor in when he'd left that morning, how long you'd already be out, and an approximation of how long he'd be on duty. Which of course just meant you guessed as you didn't even know what he was out doing given that it was daytime. When you finally figured out a reasonable time you took a break from the brainstorming and designing session that Hawks instigated. You'd slipped the battery in and made sure to turn your gps and location sharing off before it updated. That way Aizawa would only see your location from hours ago. Never mind that you were in the same place; you were just kind of hoping that having to gather up to date intel slowed him down.
He picked up after a few rings.
"Hi. Endeavor is an idiot."
Aizawa let out a long sigh. You could imagine that he'd just pinched the bridge of his nose or something. "Explain."
"Remember how Nezu had talked to us both about the effects of that drug? About how heroes and the like were being targeted? Well with everything ramping up, it seemed logical that higher ranked heroes were going to be roofied," you glared light heartedly at Hawks as he gave a short, amused laugh over what you'd just said. "And with all eyes currently on Endeavor, if they got him it would collapse the trust in heroes. So I talked with Nezu about the situation and he couldn't dispute my reasoning. So I headed out with Midoriya, Bakugo, and Todoroki to their internship so I could offer a retainership to Endeavor."
You could hear Aizawa putting the pieces together by the sound he'd made. And you also got a sense of displeasure as he put the puzzle together. You had to admit that it was annoying - he judged all your good intentions harshly. Most of the time, once you'd had time to cool, you could see where he was coming from. But even with that you still felt better for helping where you had; you wouldn't take back helping everyone you already had.
"Hey at least that way I'd have had a cover to be in the area when something finally happens," you defended yourself. "AND there's a lot of top heroes in the area so I figured two birds one stone right? Well..."
"Let me guess, he said no."
"Exactly! He said that only weak people would succumb to the effects," you ranted towards Aizawa now.
"Is that so?"
Hah, you could hear the annoyance in Aizawa's voice now that wasn't directed at you. You nodded in response despite the fact that he couldn't see you. Somehow knowing that he was annoyed with the number one hero helped.
"I know! He's being stupid. But I still need to be here to be helpful. Which is why," you drew it out and winced as though he were in the room with you instead of Hawks, "I won't be coming back to U.A for at least a week."
Aizawa used your name in a way that told you he was both annoyed and worried for you, "We've been over this vigilante behavior. You can't go rushing in to use your quirk in public without there being legal repercussions."
"About that...you see...I asked Hawks to set up an agency in the area. He's taking me on as an intern so I can be here and legally help when the shit hits the fan. That way I'm not a vigilante. Sounds reasonable right? Right! Okay love you bye!"
You didn't actually give him time to refute before you turned off your phone. You'd practically tossed it at Hawks like it was a snake that was going to bite you. Like before, Hawks calmly took the battery out and set it down. This time without looking away from where you were nervously fiddling with your hands and feet.
