AspirationsChapter 69
You made your way back to the waiting area of the bullet train station and took a seat against the wall, trying to figure out your options. You didn't want to go back to UA without solving the issue. Endeavor was due to be targeted. Probably sooner rather than later. You'd tried to offer your help but he'd rebuffed it in the name of his pride.
Which was why you had seriously considered taking the bullet train to Kyushu to offer your services to Hawks. You'd even taken the subway to get to the bullet train station after leaving Endeavor's agency. But as you looked at the routes and times, Kyushu was too far away to be a viable alternative. And as the idea was to be in a position where you could help Endeavor, that ruled that plan out. It was something you should have already realized given that Hawks had whisked you off to Kyushu not that long ago. Even flying directly there, at what you assumed was his top long distance speeds, had taken a long while. It was just that annoyance, frustration, and determination had overwhelmed your common sense for a moment.
So you had to think of a new plan as you sat in the immaculate station. Endeavor had rebuffed your help thinking that he would be strong willed enough not to fall to the effects of the sex drug. Despite how foolish he'd been, you knew he was still going to need help. But the only other pro-hero outside of U.A that you knew, knew about the drug had an agency that was hours away. Despite how quickly he could solve crimes, even Hawks couldn't fly over 300 kilometers fast enough for you to have any positive effect when Endeavor was drugged up. U.A was closer but it was still about 2 hours by regular train away. You were going to need to be closer than that. With the time it would take to even find and secure something like a micro apartment, you weren't going to be able to do that on your own.
It took you longer than you would have liked to admit after that sank in before you swallowed your pride so that you could do what had to be done. Making a deal with the not-so-devilish hero would better than turning vigilante at least right?
Why let them dictate how you use your quirk?
You pulled out your cell phone and went into your contacts. You had to unblock him before you were able to dial out. Given the nature of the call that you were making, and to whom you were making it, you felt your nerves piling back up. Your stomach twisted into knots as a cold ball of anxiety wrapped around your heart. What if he didn't pick up? Each ring sounded like a siren going off in your ear. You'd been angry at him for so long, justified as you felt you'd been, that you wouldn't have blamed him for not picking up. Especially since he was presumably working. By the last ring you had figured that he was too busy to pick up.
Then the ring broke off and a surprised voice took its place, "Chickadee?"
"Hi," it was a lame start but a start nonetheless "Are you in the middle of something?"
"Aren't I always?"
"Fight?"
"No, no, it's been a pretty quiet day."
"...Patrol?"
"You could call it that."
You could have sworn you heard two voices in the background but it was too quiet to really make them out. The noise filtering on his phone was top notch.
"When does your shift end?"
"Well I'm supposed to be out all day. Why? Want to grab dinner later?"
You truly hoped he was putting on an act or something for the people you'd heard comment a moment ago. If not, his casual tone after the meeting yestermorning was giving you a whiplash sensation. And given the flirty edge you'd picked up on that was a bit disconcerting. Either you were about to make a deal with the devil or he was putting on that number two act he'd mentioned in private.
