Aspirations
Chapter 67You looked at your phone as you yawned with such intensity that for a moment it felt like you were trying to impersonate a snake. It was hard to believe that the school year was almost over. Just three more weeks of classes before spring break.
As you turned over you saw that Aizawa had apparently snuck into bed at some point during the late night. How did you know? Well he had just sat up and was in the process of wrapping his capture weapon.
You grabbed at some of the baggy material of his shirt. Given that he was still in yesterday's clothes he must have gotten in very early. Which meant he couldn't have gotten more than a nap. You pulled at the dark material. Aizawa paused in his preparations and turned back to look at you.
"Stay," you managed to get out as you released your grip.
The pro-hero frowned. He shifted his body so that he was half facing you. Which only highlighted the fact that he was about to turn you down.
"I'll come by later."
Disappointment and worry raced through your body with high intensity. It wasn't a school day so the fact that he was leaving early by choice hurt. You knew, logically, that his hero duties came before everything. Especially right now. There was more building up behind the scenes; the heroes were readying for war. The only reason you knew about it was because of your proximity to multiple pro-heroes. Eraserhead, Hawks, Endeavor, and even Nezu had been dropping clues. Hell, Hawks had straight out told you that there was about to be a war the morning before.
"I'll be—" you had to pause as a yawn interrupted your slow, sleepy speech.
You stretched heartily, feeling the sweet pleasure of release that came with popping your spine. Aizawa apparently found your movements fascinating as he'd continued to give you his attention even though you'd paused communication. You even saw him faulter in his preparations as you stretched out your arms and wiggled your fingers awake.
"—-out," you finished up what you'd been saying.
Apparently he hadn't been paying attention to the words coming out of your mouth even though he'd been looking right at you. The pregnant pause after he'd released a questioning, probing sound told you that much.
"I know you're preparing for whatever is happening in this next month," you said slowly as you started formulating more complete thoughts.
It was month three out of the couple months span that Hawks had once brought up. You had promised to be out of the country by now; securely pregnant with his child and away from the danger zone that all of Japan was going to turn into. Hearing the number two talk about no where in Japan being safe hadn't really started to sink in until the last few days. Sure you'd been worried about it and all but it had started to feel more real. More concrete. The less you saw of Aizawa, the more it started to set in and the more fear gripped your heart.
The war was about to start.
And Endeavor's own advice about finding a strong match to help you stay safe ate away at the peace inside of your mind. Endeavor, Hawks, Eraserhead, all of the UA staff and all of the students...they were all giving off that same kind of vibe. They were all readying for war. Which was probably why you were running yourself ragged trying to be everywhere all at once. The more heroes, pro and student alike, you helped get ready for combat, the better everyone's chances.
You couldn't rely on helping any one person and hoping they helped the next. You had to help them all yourself. That's the feeling that kept racing through your heart. The fear that you weren't enough, that all your efforts were too little too late, was suffocating. You were just doing your best to breathe through it.
