Dear Ben,
I'm sure you heard about the Triwizard Tournament that is happening at Hogwarts this year. The First Task went well, my friend Harry -- yes, Harry Potter, the famous one I always tell you about -- he won. Before you ask, yes, he's only fourteen.
This whole thing is messed up, but other than that, I'm doing well. I miss Fawshire, but not homesick.
I will not be returning for Christmas, as there is going to be the Yule Ball taking place.
I figured I should let you know that the professors are practically forcing us to go with a partner, you are not allowed to beat up any boys who may ask me. I do not care how strong you are because of your Auror training -- how is that going by the way? Do you like it?
Anyway, I haven't been asked out, yet. I'm ashamed to admit this, Brother, but I do have someone I wish would ask me. I've thought about it a lot.
You see, I hate this boy. Despise him, even, but he is just so inticing. I can't get him out of my bloody head. He makes me so angry, but I can't stay away. You hate him, too. You know him.
I will not tell you his name, but he is terrible, wicked, and cruel and I don't know why I think of him so much. I bet if he did take me to the Yule Ball, he'd treat me horribly and make my night the worse possible. It would be a game for him, to be honest, I think it's a game for me, too.
But he calls me 'Rose.'
Do you remember when Mother used to call me that?
I don't know. I'm conflicted.
Please write me back soon, I'd love to hear about your Auror training.
Say hello to Mother and Father for me.
I love you,
Adeline. She read the letter over and over. She was going mad for sure.
Adeline pulled a new piece of parchment, writing everything except the bits about this boy who calls her 'Rose,' the boy she hates. She replaced it with things about Neville, Hermione, Ginny, Ron, Harry, Dean, Seamus, Luna, Josephine, Theo. Everyone. Anyone, but him.
Adeline sealed the letter with her family crest and wrote on the front:
Benjamin Fawley
Fawley Castle
Fawshire, UKAt the back, she quickly scribbled:
From Adeline Fawley
Gryffindor Tower
Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry
ScotlandEveryone was going to Hogsmeade, all except for a couple students. It was now the first Saturday of December and it was colder, snow began to fall.
Adeline stayed toasty in a blue jumper and a pair of leggings. She let her hair hang loose and put the letter in her book bag before heading to the library. She was one of the couple students staying behind. She loved Hogsmeade, she did. She just prefered to stay in the warm castle today.
She walked down the empty corridors to see that the professors who hadn't gone, were already getting ready for Christmas. Hagrid was bringing in trees from the Forbidden Forest, and Flitwick was waiting in the Great Hall to decorate.
Adeline made her way into the library and sat down at a table in the back. She pulled out a potions essay and started to write as she waited.
"Adelineee!"
Adeline's head snapped up and a warm smile took over her face when she saw Theo. He was smiling cheerily and took his seat next to her.
"Theodore." Adeline replied, bowing her head slightly.
"Don't call me that," said Theo. "How have you been?"
Theo and Adeline haven't talked one-on-one for a while, and Adeline thought that Theo might decline her invitation to hang out for a while due to his closeness with Malfoy.
Malfoy, whom she hasn't seen — or even dared to look at — since they had both had their yelling match in detention.
"I've been well, a bit worried about the Yule Ball, but so is everyone. You?" Adeline asked, putting away her potions essay.
