Adeline put on her best casual dress. Well, her mother's version of casual anyway. She curled her hair and coated her face in glamour charms and makeup. She attempted to look her best.
This was part of her and Ben's plan.
She was meant to act as proper and obedient as possible while also giving sly points as to why she should go back to Hogwarts for her fifth year.
Ben was already sitting at the breakfast table when she came down in her glory. Her mother and father weren't facing her, but when Ben saw that she was following the plan, gave her a small nod.
"Good morning, Mother," Adeline said, gliding to her seat. "And you, too, Father."
Melody looked at Adeline's dress and hair, giving an approving smile. "Good morning, Adeline."
Cormac glared curiously. "And why is it you're wearing your mother's favourite gown?"
"I figured it would be good if I dressed up while we went through Fawshire today. I only want our people to see me in my best." Adeline answered.
Ben raised his eyebrows. "That's actually a good idea, Ads."
"Hush, Benjamin," silenced Cormac. "What is it you want?"
To make a point, thought Adeline. To show you that I can be a princess and take care of myself.
If worst comes to worse, she had a final plan. A plan that she didn't want to have to mention, nor go through with.
Adeline lied. "I don't want anything, Your Highness. I just want to learn how to rule since I'm going to be the one ruling the Kingdom someday if Ben decides that he doesn't want to."
Ben said she could do this. Ben told her she could throw him under the bus if that is what it would take to get her to be able to go back to Hogwarts.
Cormac dropped the subject and Adeline sat in her chair, sitting with perfect posture and eating like a bird. She didn't have much of an appetite due to the fact that today was meant to be quite unnerving.
The letter from Hogwarts came yesterday and Adeline was meant to go to Diagon Alley on Saturday with Neville if she was going. She's been keeping him, Ginny, and Luna updated with her current situations. She also owled Theo and Josephine about it.
She thought she might message Malfoy about it, too...
But everytime she started a letter -- like this morning -- she wrote something wrong or dumb and scribbled it out. She then reminded herself of the fact that he doesn't care about her family problems. Malfoy doesn't want to hear about her and the fact that she may or may not be returning to Hogwarts.
He hugged her because it would be awkward if he didn't. He hugged her because he was taken aback.
Adeline had to stop thinking that this meant something because it didn't. He left without saying a word.
And though Adeline couldn't fight her attraction to Malfoy and his appalling attitude, she still hated him. She hated what he stood for, she hated when his lips formed the foul slurs he called her friends, she hated his beliefs, she hated his actions.
She loathes him, but she doesn't.
She knows that for a fact her blood boils around him and she feels a constant need to slap him across his priss face.
She also knows that she now cares about what she looks and acts like around him.
And that's all she can comprehend as of right now.
"Ben," Melody addressed Adeline's older brother. "How is training? You're not home often, so I assume well?"
"It's okay," shrugged Ben, placing his fork onto his plate. "I mean, it's difficult, but nothing I can't handle. It's a lot of physical activity for sure."
