Adeline was furious. She didn't know quite at what, whether it be with Malfoy, with Theo? She didn't quite know what was going on. She was just fuming.
She pushed her way through the crowds and when she reached the doors of the beautifully decorated Great Hall, she took in a deep breath.
She couldn't act like this, couldn't run into the Great Hall and yell at everyone she sees. People will think she's gone mental. She was a princess, taught to be calm and collected.
As she stood, looked into the Hall. It was more empty than before, everyone else had gone back to their dorms so that they could get the sleep they need to get up early for Christmas Day.
Adeline took another deep breath, still fuming. She blinked, letting the tears in her eyes subside and the tenseness in her shoulders fall. She unclenched her knuckles and stood up tall, plastering a fake smile onto her face.
Maybe she would fool some people, but she was still bloody pissed.
One wrong move, and she would snap.
Adeline walked through the doors of the Great Hall with a faux smile on her glamoured face. She caught sight of Ernie and walked towards him.
"Hi, sorry. Theo was just talking about what we're going to do since we can't be home for Christmas this year." Adeline lied, feeling her chest tighten.
"Oh, that's alright. The Ball is over, really. Would you like me to walk you back to the Gryffindor common room?" Ernie asked, a smirk pulling at the corner of his lips.
Adeline took a breath, steadying herself. To be honest, she wanted to be left alone. She wanted to get back to her dorm, take of this massive dress, and cry.
She wasn't upset, not in the slightest. She wanted to cry of pure rage.
She didn't know how else to handle it without causing a scene.
And scenes were not tolerated of a Pureblood Princess.
But she found herself swallowing thickly. "Yes, you can walk me if you wish."
Ernie had held his arm out, just like he did earlier on in the night. She held tight to it as they walked down the corridor. Adeline took slow, long breaths as she walked. The rage was slowly subsiding as she walked with Ernie and listened to him make small talk.
"Anyway," he said. "I have a younger brother, but he doesn't attend Hogwarts until next year. His name is Micheal."
"That's lovely. I have an older brother, he's six years older than me. His name is Ben." Adeline said, trying to relate to her date in some ways.
To be honest, they were very similar. Both Pureblood - to keep the lineage going, even though that didn't matter to either family, of Hufflepuff decent, both wealthy.
"Oh, really? What House was he in?" asked Ernie, curiously.
"Hufflepu-" Adeline began before she caught sight of one of her fellow Gryffindor's crying on a staircase, her periwinkle dress shimmering as she bowed her head into her hands. "Hermione?"
She mumbled the words to herself and she was far away, so Hermione couldn't hear her words. Ernie caught onto the silent name calling and his eyes travelled to the pretty witch sitting on the steps.
"Is she alright?"
"I should probably go check," Adeline bit her lip slightly, tasting her vanilla flavoured lipgloss as her teeth coated over it ever so slightly. "Do you mind?"
"Can I say goodbye first?" Ernie questioned, his tone a bit pleading.
"Sure." Adeline smiled, concern filling over the previous rage that filled her.
