Malfoy didn't call on her for the rest of April.
Now they were almost finished with May, and with the stress of her O.W.Ls, helping Fred and George with the prank (which was set to be at the end of this month or the beginning of June because they got an establishment for their joke shop in Diagon Alley), tutoring, and the school work she had already had due, she didn't know if she could help Malfoy if anything he needed.
They hadn't spoken about anything that happened with the DA since that day, and she wasn't planning to bring it up.
She didn't know why she felt so embarrassed about lying to Malfoy. It wasn't as if they were friends, or even close for that matter. They were sworn enemies; not only based off of the house colours they wore proudly on themselves by day, but by the way their families spoke about others through closed doors. Their fathers were business partners, but that meant nothing. Their mothers were friends... ish. But they lived in a world where a woman's voice didn't matter.
Adeline and her mother were to keep quiet and be the beautiful jewels they were trained to be, and when Adeline turns 18, she is not allowed to sword fight on her own in the gallery anymore. Her intelligence does not matter. Only her beauty; which is beginning to wear thin in her eyes.
Malfoy seemed to thrive in this lifestyle. He flourished, being the proper gentleman he was, and showing off his knowledge on what his father taught him about expenses and liquor.
Adeline was a wilting flower. A wilting Rose as Malfoy would put it.
She listened to her mother explain to her what kind of wines to serve for different dinner parties, what gossip to say at what time, how to curtsy, and to tie up the busts of her own gown on her own. But she did so because she had to survive. She couldn't be the disappointment that her father deemed Ben to be.
And if Malfoy were to bring it up to her parents or Umbridge, that's how she would deem.
Failure had it's vicious hands around her throat, tightening the older she got, ready to take her under. She was more than horrified.
So she had ignored it and had forgone with silence. They didn't even have their fussing banter anymore. It was filled with only the words that needed to be said. She did admit that it hurt a little bit, but she was used to pain. Besides, it is only Malfoy.
As for the party, it was delayed until the upcoming weekend. Lavender had decided that Umbridge was too much of a hassle back in April, and thought delaying it a month would cool their tails. Adeline let Theo know the change of plans instead of going to Malfoy.
She was actually with her dear cousin, looking out at the Black Lake as she mulled over the past month.
"I'm just saying, Ads," Theo sighed dramatically. "Taking a leap like that doesn't sound like you."
She snapped back into reality. "The DA was a leap I was willing to take for the future of our world."
He snorted. "Well, when you say it like that." The sarcasm dripping off his tone like molten lava was nothing new for Theodore Nott, and Adeline didn't even flash him an annoyed look this time, she just looked out at the lake, wrapping her arms around her knees.
They were 8 inches away from each other, that pink toad did not need to worry.
Adeline focused on the breeze of the late spring air as it brushed up her uniform. It was Friday. The party was tomorrow night. She really didn't want to do this.
But she kept her voice calm as she asked Theo the subtle question. "Will you be attending the party tomorrow?"
"I haven't decided." Theo replied, seemingly distracted with something else.
