The process in healing Adeline's leg was beyond painful. She was glad to have Ben with her throughout the process as it did take a good day for her leg to heal. Pomfrey was right, though; the Skelegrow did work.
Pomfrey kept Adeline for a couple more days in the Hospital Wing. Ben took one day off of work to stay with her, but went back to work after discussing with Dumbledore -- who had come back -- that he would like to take Adeline home early for her mental and physical health. Adeline had no part in this. Still, Dumbledore agreed and said that she wouldn't miss anything anyway.
Neville helped Ben take Adeline's trunk to the Hospital Wing after the girls helped clear all of her stuff out. Adeline could walk now, but they insisted it was alright and that she needed rest.
Adeline talked to Harry a couple times since he came back and she could say that he seemed pretty out of it. She wished he would be okay. She also made sure he knew that he would always have her. No matter what came of anything. But their last conversation was a couple of days ago and Adeline hadn't seen him since.
She was meant to go home today, and was finally allowed to get out of bed. Pomfrey had cleared her -- she was the last one to have done so. Neville and Ben had gone for a walk along with Luna. She thinks it was to see Umbridge's run down office and for Ben to try to get to know Neville better. Ben had always been protective, and he wasn't happy upon hearing about Neville being her friend in first year, even worse when he found out they were just as close in third year. He had always wanted to find out if Neville had had the 'right intentions.' Luna went because she was with Neville when Ben went to speak with him.
Anyway, they were gone and Adeline was meant to pack up and make sure she had the rest of her stuff.
That's when her wrist burned. She looked down to see the bloody snake tattoo and grimaced.
It must be time to pay her price.
She pulled back the blue-green curtains surrounding her cot and gasped when Malfoy stormed right through it. Her chest tightened and butterflies swarmed in her abdomen. She stepped back. "What are you-
He shut the curtain aggresively. "Are you alright?"
"Malfoy-
He cut her off. "It was me. I hit you with that first hex, but I didn't mean for it to hit you. I meant for it to hit that Weaslette, but she knocked my wand sideways."
He was still cold. It was unnerving.
She didn't want to hear his weird apology that wasn't an apology.
So she got straight to the point, her eyes just as cold as his. "My wrist burned. What do you want me to do?"
"Why were you in the Hospital Wing for this long?" He ignored her.
Adeline sighed. "After Ginny hit you with that hex, I was hit again. I hit Umbridge's fireplace and broke my leg. Pomfrey fixed it a couple days ago, she just wanted to make sure I was fine after everything."
"Who hit you?" Malfoy's eyes bore into hers with so much intensity that she realized he was no longer being cold. He was pissed.
"Malfoy-
"Who was it, Rose?" He repeated, his tongue roving along the inside of his cheek.
"It doesn't matter," Adeline swallowed, turning away from him and back to her open trunk. "Neville hit him a couple times."
Malfoy came up behind her, his hand going to rest on the cot. "It matters to me."
Adeline caught sight of the black box. The black box with her gift for Malfoy. She picked it up, unfazed. He was here now, wasn't he? She turned around, holding it out to him. "This is for you."
