The rest of the holidays at Fawshire was interesting at the least, and horrible at best. It was hectic and Adeline was happy to be back at Hogwarts, even if she hadn't given her brother a proper goodbye.
Ben was kicked out of the castle again after a loud and extremely dramatic argument with Cormac that became physical. Though, at that point, Melody had dragged Adeline away from what was going on and assured her that everything was going to be okay.
The last time she had seen her brother was a slight glimpse of him as he walked from the throne room to Apparate to what she could only assume was Tonks's house.
This resulted in the rest of Adeline's holiday being in isolation. As well as full of panic attacks and scribbled letters to Ben, hoping she would see him again soon.
But when the time came for her to go back to Hogwarts, she went graciously. She didn't want to be around her father any more than she had to. She needed to escape. She needed to get back to her routine of business so she could forget.
However, Adeline was terrified about going back to school. She heard that Umbridge was only a slight slip away from firing Trelawney and Adeline didn't want to get caught in that or have her favourite subject taken away.
This woman was Satan in pink bows and heels.
She was also worried about Malfoy. She was worried because she would think about him often. And she was revolted because it would calm her down. It would subside her panic attacks to think about his lips on hers.
Though, they would bubble up once more when she would think about seeing him again. She didn't think she could do that.
But if Trelawney was fired, she wouldn't have to see Malfoy again. Their tutoring would be up.
Still, she didn't want her to leave.
Adeline walked into the Gryffindor common room and when she saw Neville in the corner reading the Daily Prophet, got excited. She had been waiting ages to see her friend, and had sat beside an unusually quiet Theo on the train ride over. She hadn't had much fun today — or for a while.
And she missed Neville with her whole heart. She had missed his awkward grins, his flushed cheeks, his gawking over billions of plants. She had missed it all and was so grateful to have seen him again.
So grateful that she rushed forward and jumped — very unprincess-like — on the couch next to him with a wide smile on her face.
He shut the newspaper quickly and turned to Adeline, smiling. But it wasn't genuine. She could tell.
"Addy," Neville gasped. "I missed you."
"I missed you, too," Adeline replied, putting a hand on his shoulder. "What are you reading?"
He reached behind his head and scratched the back of his neck. "The Prophet."
"Ha ha," Adeline said sarcastically. "I meant what is it about?"
Neville sighed. "There has been a mass breakout from Azkaban."
The words made Adeline's heart pound. Azkaban was meant to be the wizarding world's most secure prison ever. No one has ever escaped besides Sirius Black, and Adeline had just found out last year that the only reason why he was able to do that was because he is an Animagus.
"What? Who escaped?"
Neville passed her the newspaper, averting his eyes from her as he gave it to her. Adeline took it whilst trying to connect the expression on his face. When he wouldn't look her way, she skimmed over the paper.
