It was a bit of a struggle for Adeline to leave the Gryffindor common room, but she managed. She waited until all of her friends were thoroughly emerged in conversation and then left just before curfew began.
She had managed to find something to wear for the occasion and was pretty confident in it. She also slipped on some shiny pink lipgloss, highlighter, blush and extra mascara. Her black slip was hidden underneath a robe in which she lifted up the hood to hide her identity from loose students and professors.
She made it up to the Astronomy Tower to find the blonde boy she was so infatuated with standing at the railing dressed in the same thing as he was earlier. He was facing the scenery beyond the castle.
Adeline spoke first. "Are you sure we won't get caught up here?"
Malfoy turned around, on his face was a wicked smirk. "I'm sure we won't. I'm very cautious."
Adeline let down her hood carefully, then pulled her hair from the cloak. She let her chestnut curls drape over the fine inky velvet. She smiled at him, truly.
This felt dangerous.
Exciting.
Adeline trudged forward, her heart pounding. When she was face to face with Malfoy, she let out a breath she didn't know she was holding. "This doesn't feel real."
Malfoy grabbed her hands in each of his and he breathed out. "It really doesn't."
"I'm confused." Adeline blurted suddenly.
Malfoy's smirk turned into a light smile. "Again?"
"Yes." Adeline confirmed.
Her hands tangled with Malfoy's made her feel sparks that she never felt with anyone before. He made her feel safe somehow, even through the constant teasing and hatred that they shared for each other in prior years.
"Why are you confused, Rose?" Malfoy brushed away a piece of her hair that was caught in an eyelash.
She felt kind of embarrassed admitting it out loud, but this felt real. "You hated me so much. I even hated you for a while. I just- I don't know how someone you hate or used to hate can possibly make you feel like this."
"Feel like what?" His hand was snaking up her arm, making gooseflesh rise.
"Like I matter," Adeline's voice dropped with honesty. "Like I'm not just a pawn or a princess or a toy. Like I deserve to feel pleasure and pain and everything. You make me feel everything."
"Maybe it's because we both understand each other to a certain point," He seemed to ponder what Adeline was saying, his brain working to figure out the answer like deciphering potions. "We're very different, that's obvious, but we're also the same. I found that I've connected with you so much more through hatred than I've connected with some of my friends with tolerance. Even still, I don't ever think I really did truly hate you."
Adeline responded. "I hated you once. I feel like that is why I sometimes can't believe that this is real. I feel as if I am betraying my friends."
His hand worked it's way up to her hair, sliding his fingers through the thick strands and cradling her face. "I suppose I get that. I feel as if I'm betraying my whole family line to be with you."
"I suppose we're in similar situations than." Adeline said.
"But no one knows how we are in secret," Malfoy smiled. "That's the beauty of it, isn't it? We can be however we want now, Rose. They can't judge us. They can't see."
Adeline smiled back. "No, I suppose they can't."
Malfoy leaned in to kiss her and Adeline obliged happily. She dug her fingers into his hair and he kissed her harder. She liked when he kissed her hard.
