"Geez, Miss Hong is so fucking stingy," Minji groans as we walk side by side toward the campus café. "How the hell did she give me a C for that long-ass assignment? Even if it's wrong, she could've given me some points for effort."

I laugh under my breath. "I know, right? It's Miss Hong. People say women soften after marriage..."

Minji chokes on a laugh, her eyes going wide. "Wait—are you saying she needs to get married?"

I smirk. "I mean... maybe someone just needs to humble her a little."

"God, Y/N, you talk so much shit." Minji bursts out laughing, bumping her shoulder into mine.

I laugh with her, but my smile falters when I catch sight of something unusual near the basketball court.

Yellow police tape stretches across the entrance. Two officers stand guard at the doors, serious expressions carved into their faces.

I slow down and grab Minji's arm. "What happened?"

She looks at me like I've grown a second head. "You don't know?"

I shake my head, frowning. "No, what is it?"

"Oh—right. You were late to class today," she says, as if suddenly remembering. The way she says it sends a chill up my spine.

"Minji," I say firmly. "What happened?"

She leans closer and lowers her voice to a whisper. "Jia's dead. She was murdered last night."

I stop walking.

"What?"

Minji nods gravely. "I'm serious."

I blink, stunned. My breath catches in my throat. Murdered? Jia?

"What the hell are you talking about?" I ask again, my voice barely audible.

"They found her body in the court this morning. She was covered in blood. I heard she had tons of wounds."

My hand flies up to my mouth. "Oh my God..." I whisper, shaking my head in disbelief. "But... how? Who would...?"

Minji hesitates, then murmurs, "People are saying it was her boyfriend."

I stare at her. "Are you fucking serious, Minji-ah?"

She gives a small nod. "It's just what everyone's saying. Some kids saw them together last night."

I frown deeply, mind racing. "Wait... her boyfriend. Isn't that Minhwa?"

"Yeah, I think so."

"That can't be right," I say instantly. "Minhwa's... he's soft. He's one of the nicest guys I've ever met."

Minji raises a brow. "Do you know him personally?"

"Yes. There was this one time—I left my earbuds at the café, but I'd already reached the computer lab. You know how far that is. I was panicking, and he noticed. I told him what happened, and without hesitation, he ran all the way back and got them for me. The way he talks, the way he treats people—he's just... gentle."

Minji gasps softly. "Seriously?"

"I swear. I just... I can't believe it."

Minji shakes her head. "Sometimes the people who seem the nicest are the ones hiding the worst."

My eyes drop to the pavement. "I feel horrible. I was cursing Jia so much yesterday. I even—" I stop, swallowing hard. I'd wished for her to disappear. I didn't mean it. Not like this.

Suddenly, my vision blurs and a wave of nausea hits me. I press my eyes shut.

"Y/N?" Minji places a hand on my arm, worried. "Are you okay?"
