'Where are we going?' you splutter as Jade drags you by the arm through the street, weaving in and out of the crowds overwhelmed by the light and noise of the busy city, such a drastic change from the life you knew in the suburbs before.
'Well we can't have you wasting your life away on P...Him. Plus I said I would introduce you to Steve, he is really excited to meet you.' Jade drags you into one of the bars before you had the chance to even argue.
Allowing a moment for your eyes to adjust, you scan the surroundings. It seems to be quite a humble bar with a homely feel. The long wooden bench spread across the side decorated with worn looking men perched on their stools hunched over a beer after a long day's work. As Jade whips you through the tables you were greeted by a tall, built and handsome man, easily 6 ft tall with silky blonde hair wearing a storm grey tailored suit, but somehow not looking out of place.
His voice was a deep roar 'The famous Beatrix! I have waited so long to meet my best girl's gal!'
Lowering your gaze with the onset of embarrassment, your cheeks instantly become flushed as you notice the disgruntled boozers eyes hollowing into the back of your head in disgust at the distraction from their dismal wallowing.
' And you must be Steve, I'm sorry it has taken me so long to meet you. Jade has told me a lot about you.'With a bursting smile and a slight blush, Steve slides his arm behind Jade's back planting a kiss firmly on the top of her head proud to have such a beauty on his arm. Having already ordered the drinks, Steve ushers you both to the booth for a long awaited catch up.
'This is where we first met, did I tell you that?'
Jade beams at you before her loving gaze wanders up to meet the eyes of her lover. 'It's not exactly our usual scene, but I just so happened to be working behind the bar Just before I landed the gig managing the hotel chain. The weather was awful, the snow was coming down thick. Steve came in that evening after his car had slid on some ice and well...the rest as you know was love at first sight.'
Squeezing her close to his side stroking stray golden strands of hair from her face. 'I have never been more thankful to be in a crash.'
Returning back to the room after getting hopelessly lost in one another's eyes, Jade continues, 'Speaking of the hotel chain..' the tone sweetly dancing across the table. 'I was wondering if you would be interested in getting your teeth stuck in a project?, I mean if your not ready I completely understand but this amazing opportunity came up and I am to reach out to potential event designers by the morning so wanted to check with you first. You are the best events planner I know after all!'
Taking a lock of your curled hair twizzling it through your delicate fingers, biting your lip nervously you stammer 'Well actually .. I wanted to ask if you knew of any upcoming events. With the rush of it all I haven't exactly had the chance to land any work yet.'
Producing her phone from her bag Jade delves into the plans and ideas she has for the upcoming charity gala the hotel are due to host. The gala is always the grandest affair of the summer, the star studded event is always a flamboyant experience raking in the wealthiest clients from all over the state.
Feeling a small ember shooting sparks trying to ignite your soul, you can feel the swell of excitement starting to power through. Flicking through the images your finger paused, hovering over the image you recognise as the logo for Stark Rogers....Rogers, as in Steve Rogers. Of course, Stark Rogers Technology.
Quizingly gazing between the couple as your hand lingers, awaiting clarification you raise an eyebrow eagerly awaiting one of them to expand an explanation.
After a moment, Steve confirms, 'Yup, we are funding this year's gala! Jade will send you the budgeting pack to review from my business partner Tony. It's fairly sizable as these events are very important to him, mainly for the champagne if nothing else!'
Taking a deep breath and sitting back in your chair, you let the warmth of thankfulness hug your broken heart. As always, Jade knows just what you need. 'These ideas are amazing, so much potential to work with. We will blow the gala from last year out the water with this! I will get started on a few concept ideas straight away and we can meet tomorrow at the hotel if you have some free time?'
Content with seeing that flicker of a smile spread across your face Jade leans across the table wrapping her arms around your neck, with a tight squeeze and a kiss on the cheek she could not be happier to have you close by again. The dynamic duo reunited at last.
With the plans in place to meet tomorrow and the excuses made you slowly make your way across the bar which now seems to be a little busier than before, voicing your pardons and excuse me's over the Juke box tunes ricocheting from the corner you make your exit.
The sun had started to set casting shadows upon the bustling streets, with the warm glow disappearing the cool spring breeze sending a shudder down your spine, wrapping one arm close to your body as the other attempts to gain some form of control of your flailing mane you navigate through the city focusing on remembering the route you took.
Eventually you arrive at the humble abode, your heels clicking against the concrete as you climb the steps to your new apartment. Cranking the lock, leaning your weight to push open the old wooden door it releases with an echoing creek, not that the sound stood out among the hustle of the building with its tenants and friends overflowing into the hallways, music coming from all angles muffling the distant sounds of shouting. Closing the door you turn, lean back, and take a deep breath as a single tear slides from your eye.
