Flopping down over the mound of paperwork your stomach resembles a wild bear growling after being neglected all day, you raise to your feet to make some food.

Putting some pasta on to boil you lean against the counter rubbing your aching neck from being hunched over. As the warm summer sun sets between the building you climb out to the fire escape to enjoy your meal with a good book listening to the hustle of the city.

Placing ample blankets and pillows you settle down content with a peaceful evening.

As the night sky crept in the air cooled, tugging at the edges of the blanket you hid yourself further into the cushions. A loud screech of tyres breaking filled swiftly by a thundersome crash you bolted right back up. Peering over the rusted bars to the street below you saw a old brown van pushed across the path by the impact of an oncoming car.

The gangs of teens on the street quickly surrounding the scene making it hard to see inside, you hoped everyone was ok.

Stepping from the van a male figure wearing a cap and dark jacket and his hood up approached the white car shouting. The young teen stepping out holding in hands up clearly apologising, just as the hooded male grips the young lad by his shirt you lean forwards to shout out.

‘HEY! Leave him alone, it was an accident.’ Your voice feisty with protection. ‘HEY!!!’.

Clearly hearing your instructions the male releases his grasp, not  fully looking at you but definitely acknowledging your wishes. Tilting your head your sure you recognised him but you can’t place where...

As he steps back into his vehicle to drive off you catch a better glimpse of his face before he trails off down the street, the bumper of the van scraping along the floor sparking as he drives. Reaching for your phone you dial Jade.

Pacing your room your heart races as the palms of your hand become clammy. Your breathing is rapid as you practically shout through the phone. ‘Jade, I think he found me. I saw a man, the same man who handed me my phone and I’m pretty sure he followed me to my meeting yesterday!’

Unable to process what your saying ‘calm down Beatrix, who has found you. What man? What did he look like?’

Your voice now breaking with panic. Gasping for air...’Paul. It must be Paul.’
