Stirring under the summer sun, opening your eyes you let out a soft smile. Beatrix always looks so beautiful as the golden rays glow, warming her skin, her ebony curls spread against the soft white sheets of her bed as you run your fingers over her face. As you glide over her soft and delicate skin, taking in every feature, there isn’t a freckle on this girls body you had not embedded into your memory.
Watching as her eyes flutter under the closed lids, the gentle stokes from you tickled her. Nuzzling into the pillow revealing her glistening emerald eyes, her smile sparkling, ‘Good morning.’ With a voice so sleepy and smooth like honey you melt into her, brushing her plump lips with yours as you whisper back, ‘Good morning doll.’
Resting her head upon your chest you encase your arms around her, kissing the wild curls yet to be tamed as you inhale the flower scents, your thumb continuing to stroke over her arms. This is your favourite place in the world, wanting to hold this moment forever you take a deep breath in, closing your eyes.
A cold feeling washes over you, darkness creeping in through the door like smoke swallowing every surface. Clutching onto a screaming Beatrix as you try to hide her from this being. Her cries piercing through you as it attempts to rip her from your arms.
Bolting upright from your chair, the sweat drips down your back as you struggle to catch your breath. Regaining your bearings you find yourself still in your office, your skin cold as reality sets back in. Rubbing your hand over your jaw as the tension ached across your gritted teeth, your pissed you fell asleep. Scouring for you phone partly hoping you hadn’t missed a call but also wishing you have and the true nightmare was over you call Steve.
‘What do you have?’ impatient for updates you demand any answers you can get.
Steve’s voice was quiet on the other line, Jade had finally managed to get some sleep between her tears and he didn’t want to disturb her. ‘There looking into possible kidnap Buck. They wanted to know did she have any enemies...I could only think of Paul.’
Pinching the bridge of your nose in frustration. How could you have not thought of that... ‘Do they know where he is?’’
‘No. There getting the cops in his hometown to check if he’s in and his alibi and such but we’re still waiting for an update.’ Steve sounded exhausted.
‘Thanks buddy, for helping out. I really appreciate it man.’
‘With you till the end of the line pal, we will find her and bring her back home.’ You could hear Steve trying to sound positive, but with each passing second as though your mind was a poison it tried to convince you otherwise.
