The sun beamed through the curtain blowing in the wind, blinding you as you lay sprawled at the foot of Jade’s bed. Pulling the sheet over your eyes to retreat back into the darkness you let out a groan, ‘Did I take on a train last night?’
‘Shhh’ Letting out a playful yelp as Jade’s foot slides under the covers kicking you off the edge of the bed.
Stumbling to your feet untangling yourself from the covers, you look around to see the scattered wine bottles dotted around the room. Pinching the bridge of your nose as your eyes sting from the bright light and the noise of the busy streets below. ‘What time is it?’
Scanning the floor you find your phone hidden under a nearby pillow....7.39. ‘ugh....I have a meeting with Tony in an hour to go over the proposal.’
Flopping round like a fish out of water Jade wriggles around the bed in frustration at having to get up. Slamming her arms down over the covers, pouting like a toddler having a tantrum, ‘fine. But your making the coffee.’
After a quick shower and wearing a clean crispy white shirt of Jade’s you slip back into your jeans and your ready to go. You both head out of the apartment block peering over the top of a pair of jay’s sunglasses hiding the dark circles and redness of your eyes that even the best concealer has struggled to. Flagging down a cab you both hop in and head to Tony and Steve’s office. Jade is planning a surprise breakfast visit to Steve before his meetings start for the day.
‘I wonder of Mr Barnes will be in the office today?’ she side eyes you while scrolling through her phone.
‘Why would he be at this office?’ butterflies releasing into your abdomen as you picture his face.
‘Well duh ..’ with a toss of her head leaning back into the cab seat as she smiles texting away, probably to Steve. ‘He owns half the building. He runs the private hire security and body guard company for all of the top dogs in New York and has partnered with Steve and Tony as they provide all the top tech in surveillance and such....I thought you knew what he did?’
‘’I did...kind of. I mean I gathered he was in security from the gala but I didn’t think about it I suppose.’ Your becoming slightly nervous at the thought of bumping into him. What if he thinks your just another foolish girl for throwing yourself at him yesterday and That’s why he blew you off...way to blow it Trixie.
Pulling up to the curb, you hop out the cab as Jade hands some cash to the driver.Taking a moment you gaze up at the monstrous glass tower standing before you. Scaling high above the buildings surrounding it, you have to tilt your head to the sky to see the tip.
‘Pretty impressive isn’t it?’ came a familiar deep chirpy voice from the doorway.
‘Happy! Pepper! So lovely to see you again.’ you lean in to give pepper a slight hug, you both hit it off at the gala it was like meeting up with old friends, be it very fancy and elegant friend. Pepper always dresses to impress, her long blonde hair tied back in a sleek low ponytail donning a white fitting pencil dress and black heels.
Looking over at Happy he gives a slight nod looking out across the street before leaning in to take your bags from you containing all your plans. Glancing back over your shoulder to see who he was referring to you catch a glimpse of a man in a baseball cap turning to walk down the street, shrugging it off ‘Shall we go inside?’
