Listening, you can hear a distorted beep, a rhythmic humming as though you were under water. Where were you? It was dark. Trying to move your body, it was heavy as though laden with led.

Were you dead?

Slowly as the fog began to clear, it was replaced with flashes of memories about Paul, the ship and the pain as it shook through your body. Struggling to breathe it was as through someone was choking you from the inside, gagging on their hands as they reached down your throat. Blindly thrashing your arm, now able to flap uncontrollably, you try to fight back pulling at the obstruction.

The muffled tones of machines were now frantic, the alarms blaring as they ring out in your ears. Opening your eyes, a blinding light stings as your lids were reluctant to move, a sea of masked bodies surrounding you. They looked like doctors? Your pupils wide, looking for anything familiar you found yourself in a large room, the reflective glares of the crisps white walls burned your eyes as you struggled against the many hands trying to hold you down.

Panting for air, your lungs felt as though they had been starved of oxygen, your voice rattled through the pain as you tried desperately to speak out, 'James.'

With a calm voice one of the doctors tried to settle you, his tone soothing as he explained where you were and that everything would be ok. You were safe.

Repeating his words until you believed them 'I am safe.'

Wincing as you take a deep breath, your chest wheezing under the pressure, you rest your head back against the pillow.

'She's awake.' The words you have desperately held out to hear for the last three days. Your body weary from slumping into the waiting room chairs, moulded into  shape after persistently refusing to leave Beatrix alone.

Your mouth suddenly dries as your palms start to sweat. A wave of nausea kicks in flipping your stomach as a lump forms in your throat. The flood of nerves about facing Beatrix, the betrayal and shame you felt for your actions, for not protecting her come rushing to the surface.

Watching as Jade ran ahead into the room where she lay. You hesitate...
