Chapter 20: In Hiding

Brian's POV

Somewhere just outside Greenleaf high.

"Then what would Mr. Carter gain from this," I say, to me as I walk down the road.

I stop as the sound of footsteps draws closer. No doubt someone is following me.

I continue to walk forward before taking a corner into a narrow cranny. The moment I walked into the cranny, a guy dropped from above, blocking my part ahead.

I tilt my head back, to see a different guy also blocking my part behind. "Before we start this, I have one question… you guys are from the faction, right? I figured Kate would come after me"

"Very well then, let's do this," I say, charging at the guy in front of me.

He stood still without moving an inch, while the guy behind me approaches me. As I was almost close to the vampire in front, I stop and turn back, leaping to the man behind.

As if expecting my attack, he shifts to the side and punches me in the face.

I fall to the ground covering my now bleeding nose with my palm. The vampire pulled out a stake from behind him. He grabbed my collar and pull me up.

Before he attacks, I dig my fingers into his eyes. He screams as he let go of my collar.

I dig my hand into his chest and pull out his heart. He falls to the ground motionless. The vampire who stood still charges at me. I grin and pick the stake.

I throw the stake at him with full force, it digs into his chest. He falls to the ground lifeless. "Crap… I finished them off too quickly" I say to myself.

"What do I do with the body now?" I say, running my hand through my hair.

A hand lands on my shoulder. I turn to see a lady staring at me intensely. "Err… do I know you?"

She punches me in the face. "What the hell?"

The lady then grabs my head and stomps me to the wall behind me. She uses her two hands to hold me by the neck and flings me to the side causing me to crash into a dumpster. "Err…" I groan, trying to get back on my feet. "You're also from the faction"

She ignored me and pick up the stake before walking up to me. I rapidly charge at her. She effortlessly stabs the stake in my chest as I reach close to her.

She swept me off my feet. I fall to the ground with a thud. "Ugh…"

She uses her leg to press down the stake. "Argh…" I scream. "C-Come on girl just kill me already"

She takes her leg off the stake and kneels beside me. "I'm Athena…" she says.

"Huh… You can't kill me, can you?" I say, pulling out the stake.

I stand and swiftly pin her to a wall and point the tip of the stake to her neck. "But I won't hesitate to kill you, you know"

She seized the stake from me and turn, now pinning me to the wall. She then digs it into my chest again. "Don't get the wrong idea, I could kill you if I want to" she said, walking away from me.

She rests her back on the other side of the cranny and sighs. "Brian, you are one annoying shithead"

I bend, placing my hand on my knee, the stake still in my chest. "I thought you were supposed to kill me"

"Yeah… that was the mission I was given by the faction. To erase you from the face of this universe" she says.

I raise my head to look at her. "Then why don't you get on with it"
