Chapter 24: There is a Vampire

Dave's POV

She raised her hand to begin chanting her magic words, but I swiftly pinned her to the wall. I knew fighting her won't make anything better, but I have to restrain her. She struggled, trying to release herself but it was fruitless.

Some moments later, she stopped and just let the pain out as she screamed out that the glass shattered into pieces. I let go of her and took a few steps backward. She fell to the ground, tears streaming down her cheeks.

"Well then, we will get going…" Brian says, pulling me away with him.

Now outside the house, I pinned him to the wall and pressed my elbow into his neck. "Why did you do that?…" I ask. "Is it because I compelled Franklin out of town?"

"What… No, why would I get mad over that…"

"Then why?…"

He tapped my hand. "Then let go"

I took my hand off his neck and he gasped.

"I mean, you wanna make peace with your past and Eleanor, you might as well tell the entire truth of what you did… don't worry, she'll come by," he says.

I pull myself away from Brian. "I hate you…"

He smiled and tapped my shoulder before walking away.

Greenleaf high.

Poppy stood in front of her locker, staring intensely at it. The bell rang but she still didn't move an inch. She used to be very active and motivated.

But now she barely talks to anyone, not even when class is going on. She closed the locker shut and sighed, while slightly hitting her forehead on it.

"Poppy…" A voice calls out from behind.

She turned to see a man in his late sixties staring at her. "Do I know you?…"

He extends his hand. "I'm Carter…"

She shakes his hand. "Nice to meet you Mr. Carter- I guess"

"You have a strong grip for a lady…"

She quickly pulls her hand away and clears her throat. "Allow me to escort you out"

She nods, and they both walk down the hall. "I've heard about you Poppy."

"Okay?" She replied, completely uninterested in whatever he had to say.

"I have heard about your parents. How your dad mysteriously disappeared, and your mom was murdered by an unknown cause. I'm sorry"

Poppy's face fell.

"You had to move-on on your own. You sponsored yourself to school, cloth yourself… you're a strong girl Poppy…"

She stopped and turn to Mr. Carter. "Is this going somewhere, or is this your way of abducting a young lady to get your way with her"

Mr. Carter throws his head back as he laughs. "I'm not that guy Poppy…" he continues. "I heard of the new friends you made here in Greenleaf, everything going smooth and well… till you lost one and the other left too"

She furrowed. He's starting to get her attention.

He continued speaking. "I know everything about you, young lady… and I mean, everything… Yes, I know what you are" he whispers.

Poppy swiftly grabs his collar and pins him to a wall. "I could just kill you right now…"

Mr. Carter chuckles and points down the hall. She turns to see a lady walking up to them. Poppy quickly let go of him.
