Chapter 21: Dwelling on the Past

Some years ago.

"Listen, son," Mr. Carter started. "No matter what your mother and I say to each other, we still love you and your younger brother okay? And you have to know we are not fighting- we... we are just showing each other how much we love each other" Mr. Carter says to his first son, Henry.

Henry smiles as his father hugged him tight.

"Henry, you're gonna be late for school..." his mother says while walking into the room. She frowns as she sees the two of them holding each other closely.

She immediately pulls her son away from Carter. "Don't you stain my child with your disgusting attitude" she says.

"Why do you always do this, especially in front of the kids?" He says.

She puts her hand up. "Don't you dare, don't even start,"

She then stomps out of the room with the young boy. Mr. Carter's face fell. "No, I'm not letting it go this time," He says, running after his wife.

"You get mad over silly things... like come on Reilly"

"Oh so now I'm crazy, huh, I'm the crazy one..."

She nods and walks out of the house with the boy.

"Don't walk away when I'm talking to you Reilly" Carter yelled, following behind her.

She turns to slap him, but he instantly holds her hand. "Don't you dare? What is your problem, it happened once- just once... let it go"

Reilly angrily pushes him away. "You disgust me... I don't know why I'm still here" she says, entering the car.

Henry stared at his father as tears drop down his cheek. "Come on Henry, let's go already," Reilly says.

The boy walk into the car too, and they drove off. "Is that your wife?... How did you keep up with her" a voice says from behind.

Carter turns to see... "Leah... yeah, she was not like this," he says.

They both return to the house. "When are you going to make me a vampire?"

She laughs. "Trust me, love, you don't want to be a vampire,"

He leans in to kiss her, but she tilts her head and he ends up kissing the side of her lips. "Is everything okay?..."

"It's just, we are getting late Carter... we have to revive Surr"

Carter puts on his coat while speaking. "Why do you want to bring him out? Don't get me wrong, I want to help... but what would he do?"

Leah hiss and slip her fingers into his. "Come with me, there's something I want to show you"

"But I gotta get to work," He says.

She smiles, revealing her white teeth. "Work can wait, love," she says, pulling him along.

After a few hours of walking through the woods, they arrived at a building. "What is this place?"

"This... this is the Surr faction. Come on" She says, pulling him inside the building.

His jaw drops as he saw the number of people there. "A-Are they all vampires?..."

She nods. "Yeah... and they all want Surr to be revived... they all have lost someone who only Surr can bring back with his divine powers. We have to hurry about searching for the map" She says.

A lady walked up to them. "Hey, Leah, who's this with you?..."

"Oh this is Carter, I've told you about him right... Carter, Kate." Leah says.
