Bokket town.

In the year 670.

It was a beautiful morning. The town was peaceful and quiet. The only sound present was the happy playing kids.

Some older people; Helen, Surr, and Annabel sat on a bench having a heated conversation. "You know... it still puzzles me how you get to be a witch and we don't," Annabel says, pointing at Helen. A dark-skinned not so beautiful lady with long hair which falls down her shoulder.

Surr nods in approval.

"I told you many times. Perhaps I should repeat myself. Surr's fathers were never witches, and he is not related to any witches. Not even his ancestors were witches"

"As for you... well since we are sisters I will say, you were not strong enough to acquire the powers" Helen adds, smiling at them.

Surr shoulders Helen and shakes his head. "We just want to be able to fight for the village, when the Herids attack again"

Helen's face turns sad. "You'll have your role to play in this fight... I have seen it"

"But you will not tell us what you saw?… Another reason why I want to be a witch"

Helen nods. "You know, I have been wondering, how did the Herids come to be?" Annabel asks.

Helen looks up to the sky and sighs. "Nobody knows. It's just like us witches... we have been there since the beginning of time. But then the Herids are misled creatures who can't stop killing humans. Forever cursed till eternity" she says, stammering before saying a word.

"And there is nothing that can kill them... not even the power witches possess?" Surr asks.

"I-I will find a way to stop the Herids. Trust me"

Annabel stands from her seat. "We trust you, Helen. But... the situation is getting out of hand. Just a few years back Bokket was filled with hundreds of clans. Now-Now there are not more than five families"

"Anna. Calm down..." Surr says.

She stops as tears run down her cheeks. After wiping it, she opens her mouth to continue but got interrupted by a scream from the far end of the town. Helen, Surr, and Annabel run in the direction from which the sound was coming from.

As they reach the location, they notice a lady pinned to a tree by a Herid. Helen cast a spell and the Herid lit in flames.

It screams and moves away from the lady trying to put out the flame. The creature disappeared into the woods. "It is not dead. We need to leave this place now"

They all ran into the town, hoping the monster does not return. The lady whom they saved, thanked them and ran into her house.

"There is no hope Helen, these monstrous beings will have us all killed," Surr says, disappointedly.

Helen sighs and places her hand on her forehead. "There might be a way to stop the Herids, but it is very dangerous..."

"Whatever it is, as long as it will stop these monsters, just do it," Annabel says.

Helen walks a few steps away from Annabel and Surr. "You don't get it... it is too dangerous"

"What is it?" Surr asked.

"Let's head back home... I'll tell you there," Helen says.

The three of them walk back to their house without saying a single word. The moment they stepped into the house, Annabel turns to Helen. "Speak..."

"Okay... a few years ago I was reading some old witches' scroll, and that was when I found out about the Herids"

"And you didn't tell us anything?"
