"So, what's up?"
"Well, I wanted to say I'm sorry for last night..."
"You have nothing to be sorry about, you were right, I should have told you I'm seeing someone else"
"Have you been seeing her for long?"
"Actually, it was our first time last night. I didn't know how it would go, so I didn't say anything. But I shouldn't have brought her there. She said she had heard it's nice and I didn't want to say no..."
"Look, Logan, it's ok. I don't have a problem with you seeing other people, I just felt like you rubbed in my face that I don't..."
"I promise it wasn't that. I didn't even had sex with her, she was so boring I couldn't even think about sex..."
"Oh, come on, she was cute, you could have had a one-night-stand"
"The thing with me is that if I don't connect at some level with a girl, I can't work. That's why I take them out first or if I pick them up in a bar, I talk with them..."
"Aww... If I don't connect with them I just take whatever I can; a make-out session, sex, oral...I don't want my effort to be in vain. But, with me, how? I mean, we didn't have a date..."
"No, but we had exchanged a few words, you made me laugh every morning...There's a connection, a vibe"
"That's true. Anyway, I'm sorry you didn't have sex last night, if it makes you feel better, I barely had some"
"Was it that bad? He was so cocky"
"I bet he was. But it was bad, yeah. I felt nothing..."
"You'd think he's good with all that attitude he has"
"Well, he could be, I just didn't feel anything. No heat, no chemistry... I just laid there, waiting for it to end. Maybe I was too into my head, I don't know..."
"Why? Did something happen? I mean, I saw you leaving running..."
"Were you on a date or were you looking at me?" I ask with a smirk
"Well, I had to do something in order not to fall asleep, so I just looked around... Nice dancing by the way"
"You saw that too, huh?"
"Everyone did. Mary, the girl I was with, though you were a couple with the big guy"
"Really?"
"Yeah. I'd think that too if I didn't know better... Or at least that you're screwing each other"
"Well, we're not" I say defensively
"Then why did you get defensive?" he asks with a raised eyebrow
"Ok, we kissed a little, but that's it. I stopped it and it's not gonna happen again"
"Why? You looked good together. And if you kissed, it means you're attracted to each other"
"It doesn't matter. He's my boss. I won't go around fucking my boss, it's inappropriate"
"Well, if you ask me, as long as you have your cards on the table and be clear about what having sex would mean, I don't think it's gonna be a problem... It's not like you'll be asking for a promotion or something"
"Yeah, but if I get a promotion and whatnot, I'll always be wondering whether I earned it or if it happened because I'm sucking him dry"
"If you blow him like you do me, then the promotion will be well deserved!"
"Shut up!" I say, punching his arm and he laughs, rubbing it
"Anyway, don't overthink it. If it comes to it and it's good, be clear and just enjoy it"
"Look at you, telling me to go fuck somebody else. Are you tired of me already?" I say teasingly and he laughs
"The day I get tired of having sex with you, shoot me" he says and now I'm the one laughing
"Anyway, for now, I have to talk to him... I'll let you know if something happens"
"Good"
~~~
"Hey Fred, is Mr. Maddox here?" I ask when I get in the café
"Nope, he won't come tonight" he answers, fixing the tables
"What? Why?"
"He didn't say, but I'm guessing it's because of what happened between you 2 last night..."
"You saw us?" I ask kinda panicked
"I saw the dance, then you storming to the back, him following you, and then you left running and he punched a wall"
"Shit..." I say, looking down embarrassed
"What happened, Sandra?" He asks concerned
"Nothing. If he wanted you to know, he'd tell you..."
"Yes, but him not coming tonight without a valid reason, means it's important"
"Fred, please, I don't want to talk about it, and apparently he doesn't either"
"I'll take it. I have orders to walk you to your car after, though"
"At least he thought of that..." I mutter, going to the back to leave my things.
As I'm about to go help Fred, I get pissed Ian didn't come, so I call him, but it goes straight to voice mail
"Hey, it's me. I just wanted to tell you that if the reason you didn't come tonight is what happened with us last night, then you're a coward. I came earlier to talk to you because we need to clear things up, but, apparently, I'm the one with the balls. Take your time, but rest assured that we'll talk about it sooner or later. I don't want you to get the wrong idea of me. Good night" I say in practically one breath, my whole body shaking. I put the phone in my purse again and go to Fred
~~~
The whole night I keep checking my phone every half hour to see if he has called or texted or anything, but nothing, so I end up being moody until my shift ends at around 3 in the morning.
As I wait for Fred to close up and take me to my car, I get a phone call from Ian.
"Please, it's 3 in the morning, I'm not in the mood" I say in a sigh when I pick up
"Are you still at the bar?"
"Yes, I'm waiting for Fred to take me to my car as you ordered him" I answer annoyed and he hangs up
"Dick head" I say, looking at my screen, and then I put my phone in my purse again. As I raise my eyes from it, I see a black SUV stopping in front of me and I immediately get in the bar again
"Get in" I hear Ian saying, after rolling the passenger's window down
"What are you doing here?" I ask, getting out again
"Get in, Sandra"
"No, I wanna go home"
"You wanted to talk, so let's talk"
"I'm tired, I don't want to do this now"
"Now or never, Sandra, your choice" he says, looking at me seriously and I sigh
"Fred, Mr. Maddox is here, I'm leaving with him, ok?" I yell at Fred and he comes to check
"Oh, ok" he says after he sees him and I get in the car, while they give each other a nod
