"Ok, Sandra, I don't have anything else to ask you, I think we're OK!" the guy who has been interviewing me for the past hour says

"What does that mean? Did I get the job?"

"If it was up to me, you would, but I have to talk to the big guy!"

"Oh, I see! So, I'll be waiting for a call from you?"

"Either from me or the big guy..."

"You keep saying the big guy and I can't help but ask: is he indeed a big guy or he just has a lot of power?"

"Well, it's both..."

"How big are we talking?"

"About 6'5 in height and about 1,000 coffee places and bars in power"

"Wow... Should I be afraid of him?"

"Nuh, he's a good guy. If you do your job right, he's cool."

"Ok... Anyway, thank you for giving me hope and not just saying no like the other 4 interviewers"

"I don't see a reason not to hire you. You seem nice, polite, clean"

"Maybe because I don't have any experience..."

"We would train you anyway just to be sure, so it's not a problem"

"Ok, so, I'll be waiting" I say getting up and after a handshake, I leave

As I walk away, I see that there's a police station right across the street and I find myself bitting my lower lip, watching the officers outside of it. It's a common secret among my group of friends that I have a thing for guys in uniforms, especially for cops. if I get the job, it will be really hard to concentrate!

A week later, after having been to 3 other interviews, I have completely given up all hope to find a job anytime soon.  As I'm doing laundry, though, my phone starts ringing, and I pick it up quickly.

"Hello?" I ask in a sweet voice, hoping it's for work

"Good evening, am I speaking to Ms. Sandra Sheen?" I hear a rough, deep voice asking me and I nearly lose my voice

"Yes, this is she" I finally manage to say

"I'm Ian Maddox, from Coffee Brain, I called to inform you that I decided to give you a chance to earn a spot in my coffee shop"

"A chance to earn a spot?"

"Yes. You're a candidate among others. Fred, my head barista, will train you and if he sees that you're up to the task, we will consider hiring you"

"Oh, so I'll have to compete with other people?"

"In a way, yes... Is there a problem?" he asks, leaving me no other option than to agree with his process

"No! Of course not, I just wanted to make sure I got what you meant. There's absolutely no problem whatsoever!"

"U talk too much, u're gonna have to fix that..."

"Sure" I reply flatly

"That was too little"

"I'll figure it out"

"Good. On Monday at 5am, Fred will be waiting for you"

"Monday, 5am, got it! Tha-" I say and before I manage to thank him, he hangs up

"My God, he's rude..." I say looking at the screen before putting my phone down

"Who's rude?" My stepdad asks, walking in the room

"The owner of the coffee place I went last week..."

"What did he tell you?"

"First, he told me that I'll have to compete with other people for a spot; His exact words were I decided to give you a chance to earn a spot in my coffee shop" I say and at the end I mimic his voice

"To earn a spot? It's just a coffee shop"

"To him, it's not; he has 1,000 coffee shops and bars, so he must feel like God or something. Then, he told me I talk too much and that I'll have to fix that and when I answered sure, he said that this was too little..."

"Too little?"

"Yep! And then he just threw me a On Monday 5am Fred will be waiting for you, I repeated it to make sure and before I thank him, he hung up"

"Do u really want to work for a guy like that?"

"I can't be picky... Besides, from what I understood, he's barely around. I don't think I'll have a problem. I'm a fast learner and very careful, you know me"

"I do. I also know you cry when you're under pressure or yelled at"

"I won't cry! I'm actually very determined to prove myself"

"That's my girl. Competitive since day one!" he says proudly and after giving me a kiss on the head, I continue doing laundry...
