"I don't know...I just tried to let you go. To move forward. You can say that I pushed you out of my mind. But I can't say that I haven't thought of you all these years"
"I see..."
"How about you? Have you been thinking about me?"
"Since my engagement fell apart, I keep thinking about you a lot..."
"Why is that?"
"Because it felt like I got punished for letting you go. I kept thinking about what would have happened if we got together"
"Do you know what I understood after all these years? That maybe it was for the best. Maybe if we had gotten together, we wouldn't have lasted because we were in such different places"
"I've thought about that too. I was still a child, I didn't have any experience in dating and of course I had other priorities"
"See? It wasn't a mistake after all"
"Yeah, maybe. Anyway, I'm glad we got to set the record straight"
"Me too" He says and we continue eating, talking about completely random things
~~~
"And when are you leaving?" I ask him as we're walking
"The day after tomorrow"
"Not enough time to get enough of this city"
"I know. I'll sure come back sometime" He says and and looks at his watch
"You need to go?" I ask, my mind chanting please, don't
"No, I was just checking the time"
"It's ok if you need to go back, you came with your family after all"
"I know, but I really want to stay with you" He says looking at me and we stop walking
"I really want to stay with you too"
"Even with that mustache?" He asks playfully, making me chuckle
"Even with that"
"Wow... you must really like me"
"I do" I say and he smiles, looking away, like he's thinking about it
"What are we doing, Sandra?"
"I don't know about you, but I'm flirting with you"
"I got that. But I mean, what are we gonna do about that?"
"We can't do much. You're leaving in less than 2 days after all"
"So, shouldn't we make every second count?" He asks coming closer
"We definitely should..." I answer, pulling him into a kiss.
The minute our tongues find each other, I feel like electricity hit us. He puts his hand on the back of my neck and the other on my lower back, while my arms are around his neck. Our kiss is deep and passionate, but at the same time, very soft.
"Wait" I say, pulling away after a while
"What? Is it the mustache? Because I swear I'll shave it right now"
"No, it's not that. I just- we only got this night, I don't want to waste it"
"Is having sex with me until the sun comes up a waste?" he asks, playing hurt, and I slap his chest
"No, of course not. But we're in Florence, home of Dante Alighieri. We can't just spend the night in a house...Especially not us. We never got the chance to walk around, spend some quality time together and we'll probably never have that, so let's just walk for a while. Let me show you my favorite spots, let's have some gelato and then we'll have all night to have sex on every piece of furniture I own" I explain looking at him in the eyes. As I talk, he looks at me smiling and with his one hand on my cheek, stroking it with his thumb. When I finish talking, he leans in and leaves a long, open-mouth kiss on my lips
"Sounds great" he says when he pulls away and I smile, biting my bottom lip
"Andiamoci! (let's go!)" I say, grabbing his hand and starting walking
After getting some gelato, we walk for a while at my favorite streets, where I show him some hidden stores that I like, and then I take him to my favorite spot, which is kinda high and very quiet. I tell him how I spent many nights here, relaxing after a long day of studying and work.
"What's the last time you came here?" He asks
"I don't even remember. Mario didn't like just sitting on a rock and gazing at the stars, so I didn't come here much. And if I decided to come alone, he would blow up my phone, so I didn't actually relax"
"Now that you're single, you can come whenever you want to"
"That's true, but it's not the same anymore. I can't stand being alone with my thoughts" I say, lighting a cigarette. He sighs
"I know the feeling... You try to keep your mind busy with work and stuff, but the minute you stop, everything comes back to you"
"Exactly. Relaxing is not an option anymore"
"What if you came here and read a book? You don't have to just do nothing"
"That's actually a great idea"
"See? You don't have to give your favorite spot up just because you can't shut your mind off. It's very beautiful and it shouldn't be turned into a spot where you just think of painful things"
"I'm so glad I brought you here"
"I'm honored that you did" he says and we kiss
"Ok, I'm fucking cold, we should leave" I say after we pull away and he takes the cigarette from my hand, taking a puff
"We don't have to go if you don't want to. I'll give u my jacket" he says, putting the cigarette between his lips, and then takes his jacket off
"I'd love to stay more, but the more the time passes, the more dangerous it gets. But I'll take the jacket for the way back" I say and he helps me put it on
~~~
"Want anything to drink?" I ask when we get in the house, taking his jacket off of me
"Water is fine" he says, looking around and after kicking my heels away, I go to the kitchen
"Nice house. Big for one person"
"I know, right? My boss's husband is a realtor and the minute I walked out of Mario's office, I called her. The next day, I was signing the lease" I say as I get us some water
"Must be expensive, huh?"
"It is. But do you know how much art curators earn?"
"Honestly, not at all"
"I'll just tell you that I could have bought it if I wanted. But since I might leave in a few months, I decided to wait and see" I explain, giving him his water and then I drink from mine
"Wow" he says, before drinking too
"I know. Now, let's get to business" I say putting our glasses on the coffee table. I take his and my jacket off and jump on him.
