When it was time for breaking down our battle, it all went as expected. Everybody saw Tokoyami taking the lead on the mission and congratulated him for his quick-witted strategy. But, being the modest guy he is, a heavy red tint invaded his cheeks.
While looking at him, a peaceful feeling filled my chest, and I felt happy for him, even though I planned this for me in the first place. Hope it raises his self-confidence a tad bit.
My gaze dropped to the ground, and I softly smiled to myself, failing to notice that the bird-headed boy glimpsed at me at that very moment.
Of course, Red and Band-Aid were sermonized on their overly defensive gameplay, and I for my lack of initiative, which was exactly what I was hoping for.
Just as I was about to depart for the changing rooms, Tokoyami's bass voice called me out, "Hamahiru-san, you got a minute?"
I spun around and monotoned, "What's up?"
He nervously scratched the back of his neck while his look drifted sideways " About our battle... you planned this from the beginning, didn't you?
He's even smarter than I thought. A dull sigh left my lips, "Whatever are you talking about?"
His fists clenched. "I didn't actually think about it until the breakdown."
He had tickled my curiosity, and I looked forward to hearing his strategy, even though he seemed utterly flustered. "When All Might described all the steps I supposedly masterminded, links formed in my head."
His red eyes were glued to my rose and onyx orbs. "All the questions you asked about my quirk beforehand, the specific props you used to explain yours, the faint initiatives you took to lead me to the best battle strategy. It was all you, am I right?"
I slowly closed my eyes. "I... really don't what you're talking about."
Unveiling an unpretentious smile, I took my leave, looking over my shoulder one last time. "A word of advice, though. Take this win, Tokoyami. From what I saw, you're such a gentle and obviously smart person. You deserve to be considered as such."
I moved on, waving my hand at him as he was speechlessly rooted to the ground for a few more minutes before leaving as well to the boy's changing rooms. One thought was unable to leave his mind; Why would she purposely hide her wits and maybe downplay her quirk?
After getting our school uniforms back on, we headed to the homeroom to gather the rest of our stuff. When I stepped inside, excited chatter was echoing all through the class. I discreetly snuck to my table, hoping I could finish this day without further bother.
Tokoyami was surrounded by some others who were probably inquiring about his tactics during the battle. He seemed pretty uncomfortable, his feathery cheeks flushing a light rosy color. Jeez, let's hope he doesn't crack under pressure.
Bakugo was being harassed by a few others who urged him to stay and socialize, but he furiously growled, threatening them, and I quote, to "blow their fuckin' extra ass off." He really digs that word, huh?
A tad later, a cast-arm Midoriya came through the front door, generating an equally loud wave of enthusiasm amongst some of the students. All Might's training activity obviously helped break the ice among most students, and admittedly, it loosened up the general atmosphere.
The Greenie didn't stay much, though, and quickly ran outside to catch up with Bakugo, as I faintly understood from afar. I am still thoroughly confused by those two...
Once class was officially done, I quickly escaped the commotion and headed to the station. My hopes of a peaceful stroll were soon interrupted by an unpleasant albeit familiar call. " Hey there, Wild Child! Leaving already?"
