Fresh air filled your lungs and the sound of birds chirping kept your ears alert. Step by step, you walked down the stairs from your shared room with Revali – having let him sleep in since he was tired from his competition the day before.
It’s been around a year now since your escape from Hyrule Castle, and you haven’t seen your brother-in-law since the day before what was supposed to be your wedding day. And even though you were paranoid in the beginning, the thought of facing him now didn’t worry you as much.
You missed him and Zelda and Janelle, and even though you were able to see Urbosa still from time to time, she wasn’t giving Rhoam any direction as to how to meet with you once again. She figured since she would’ve done the same thing, she wanted to be able to back you up for as long as she could.
You and Revali had only been getting so much closer since you were now living in Rito Village with him, and even with how busy he had become with his competitions and training, he’s been trying to spend as much time as he had available with you. You had also become rather close with Revali’s friends, so anytime he went out with them you’d be happy to go.
It made you feel secure knowing that no matter what, you’d always have a place to come back to. Growing up, you always figured it would be Hyrule, but it surprised you by being the home of the Rito. You didn’t know how openly you’d be welcomed into the castle again after what you did a little over a year ago...
“_____!” Another thing is that you were almost never addressed formally anymore, which was something you had been wanting for ages. “I need to have a word with you about his majesty.” Revali’s cousin, Gwen, came rushing down the stairs when she saw you, and you stopped when you heard your name but then sighed when you heard what she said next.
“I don’t want to hear about Rhoam right now. I’m trying to enjoy my morning before training.” You told her, but she persisted in handing you some paper. “Gwen, unless he’s dying or the Calamity has returned, I don-“
“_____!” You heard Revali call for you, and Gwen let you go up to see him. “Do you want to grab breakfast with me before I go? And don’t worry about me being ‘picky’, as you call it, I already know exactly what I want!” He smiled, resting his wings on his hips proudly as you set your cup of coffee down next to your hammock.
“I really do want to but I have to head out in fifteen minutes to Hebra Peak.” You pouted, and he copied you, now letting his wings droop by his sides.
“You’re just saying that because you don’t wanna deal with my ‘pickiness’.” He turned away from you, folding his wings, and you laughed softly and walked over to gently rub his shoulders.
“Trust me, Revali if I had all day to sit and deal with your pickiness, just so I could have a meal with you, I’d do it.” He turned around with a small smile and wrapped his wings around you.
“Awww, you’re so sweet!” He nuzzled his beak into your neck as you wrapped your arms around his chest, and when you finally pulled away you didn’t forget to kiss the tip of his beak before going to get dressed. “Well then, you’ll have to let me get you dinner tonight, princess.” He added as he grabbed his bow and set it out so he’d remember it when he left. Even with everyone else not making comments about you’re royal background, there wasn’t a day that went by that Revali didn’t call you ‘princess’.
“I’ll be home around six if that works for you.” You told him, and he thought for a moment as you let your hair down and started combing it.
“I’m here at three and then not again until eight, so I suppose I’ll just have to take you out for one of those ‘late, romantic dinners under the stars’.” He raised his wing while saying this, and you giggled and nodded.
“I guess that will have to do then.” After this, you got dressed and headed back downstairs to pack up the rest of your belongings for training up in the Hebra Mountains. But not before Gwen found you again.
“_____, please I think you need to hear about this one.” She pleaded, and finally after refusing a few times, you gave in and reached out for the paper, and to this she practically threw it at you. You took a good look at the photo of Rhoam, and since it was formal looking you figured maybe it was because he did something major for the kingdom. But when you read the headline, you were shocked to find out that wasn’t the case.
KING OF HYRULE ASSASINATED BY YIGA LEADERS
“…Oh my gods.” Was all you could say as you grabbed your bag and threw it over your shoulder, holding the paper tightly in your grip as you paced around making sure you had everything to go. “No no no no no, this isn’t good!” You were so panicked and worried about how the Yiga got to Rhoam, and if Zelda was okay?!
“_____, are you ready to go?” Orville walked into the room, and since he was part of your training party, he was sent to look for you. “_____?”
“I can’t train today.” You stammered, and that’s when you noticed Revali come up next to Orville. “Family matters.”
“You okay?” He asked, and you walked over and handed them the paper so they could see it. “Oh goddess, do you need help getting over there?” Revali asked, and you shook you head and walked towards the platform so you could jump off and get to the castle.
“You all can just go train. I’ll send for you in a little bit.” You were about to jump, but two large wings caught you before you could.
“I’m not letting you go by yourself. Get on my back.” Revali hoisted you up on to his back and then flapped a couple times before diving of the platform and flying towards Hyrule Castle so you could find our if Rhoam was even alive or not now.
