Evangeline's POV

In the blink of an eye, Sam and I vanished from the bunker's kitchen into a dark, thick forest.
My palm, previously lying on Sam's shoulder, is now placed on the ground. I recognize I'm on all fours. My head is dizzy, and my stomach feels like it wants to crawl out of my throat. Right then, I start to gag, and I spit out the meal from last night.
I can hear Sam doing the same.
"Sam? Are you ok?" I ask, whipping my mouth. But Sam is still vomiting.
I try to get on my feet again but fail the first time.
I look at Sam. He now stopped to vomit, but he is lying on his side, breathing heavily. I can see blood coming from his nose.
I crawl towards him, my palms roaming over his body to see if he has any injuries. I can't feel something broken, and now I take his head in my hands. His eyes are closed.
"Sam?" I say again, "Sam, wake up.
Come on. Your brother will be furious at me when something happens to you."
I shake him a little, but he is still unconscious.
"Ok, ok, calm down." I give myself a pep talk. "You know what to do."
I lay Sam's head back on the ground slowly. My palm is hovering over his head, and I close my eyes. The golden light appears, and when it's gone again, Sam's eyes shoot open.
He looks confused; his eyes wander around. When he recognizes we are not in the bunker anymore, he wants to stand up, but I stop him:" Wait a second. How are you feeling?"
"I'm good, I'm good, thanks." he grabs my hand and takes it away from his shoulder. He stands up and looks around. The trees here are high and old. There is no moon to see. Only a few stars twinkle through the treetops.
I'm still kneeling, looking up at Sam.
"Is this the right place?"
He takes out his phone, typing on the screen. Then he answers: "Yes, we are right. The cabin should be right over there." He points in a direction. My eyes follow, but it's way too dark.
Only then, he recognizes I'm still on the ground.
"Oh God, Evangeline, are YOU ok?" he kneels beside me to pull me up on my feet.
"I'm ok, I guess. Just dizzy," I answer with a slight smile, "Maybe I need to practice this stuff more."
Sam chuckles:" You will get better and more steady. I'm sure."
I try to wipe the dirt off my hands, but without success.
"Ok, what's next?" I ask Sam.
"Let's go this way," he points to the same space as before," I just hope I'm right."
We shoulder our bags, and Sam hands me a flashlight. I follow him deeper into the darkness.
I can hear and sense the animals around us, and I'm still fascinated, how not so silent the woods are at night.
After an exhausting hike of about maybe thirty minutes, Sam stops me with a stretched arm.
Before I can ask, he lays his finger on his lips, gesturing to me to stay quiet. He switches off the light, and I do the same.
He then shows something. I follow his motion and recognize a wooden cabin. All windows are set close with wood trusses.
"What now?" I whisper.
"We have no choice. She barricaded herself in there, but still...."
"Barricaded? Why?"
"It's the cabin where her parents were killed. She was a baby, but Trauma is Trauma, right? So, I hope she won't shoot us."
I nod. I feel sorry for Eileen, being trapped out here. I wonder how she survived.
"She is deaf, right?" I ask Sam.
"How do you..." he starts," ok, I forgot, you are an angel."
I smile and go on: "What, if you try to give her some light signals? I guess she knows about these?"
Sam looks at me, dumbfounded before he says:" Why haven't I thought about that?"
I just shrug my shoulders:" And, will you?"
Sam nods, and we start to walk onto the porch. Sam gets to one of the windows and pulls one of the piles. He peeks through the glass behind.
He turns to me:" She has lightened up a fire."
He holds up his flashlight, aiming it at the window. He breathes out heavily and turns the light on and off very fast.
I can hear a sound from inside, but then it's silent again.
"Do it again," I state to Sam. He nods and repeats the light effects.
I lay my ear against the wall, and quiet steps are to hear.
I touch Sam's arm, nodding towards the door.
He passes me, pressing his back to the wall.
I can hear a tiny squeak, and Sams takes a step further.
He opens the door thoroughly with a palm but stays outside. Once more, his flashlight lights up like before.
Then a voice comes out of the dark: "Sam?"
And now, there is no more stopping. Sam barks into the cabin: "Eileen."
I can feel my heart pounding fast. Not because of any fear, just because I'm happy we found her.
Then Sam screams:" Evangeline?"
I step inside, scanning the place, and find Sam and Eileen, crouching in a corner. Sam holds Eileen, she seems unconscious, and dark circles cover her eyes.
"She is weak, and I guess seeing me was too much." He explains and carries her to the small bed.
When her head hits the pillow, her eyes flutter open.
"Sam? Is that you?" her hands are shaking, and her eyes search for his face. He sits down at the edge of the bed.
"It's me. I'm here." he says and gestures the words with his hands.
Her eyes swell up with tears and she starts to sob. Sam pulls her up in a hug and kisses her head.
Sam takes her face in his massive hands, saying:
"Sleep, I'm here now."
Exhausted, she let herself sink onto the pillow again. When she was breathing heavily before, her upper body now moves more steadily.
Sam gets up slowly, trying not to wake her up.
We step out of the building.
Sam chuckles, and I can see how relieved he is.
"When she is stable enough, we need to bring her home."
I nod:" She needs to rest and if she will let me, I can help her get strong enough for the trip."
Sam nods, leaning against the wall behind him.
"Thank you." he whispers.
"I haven't done anything."
"You did. You found her, you brought me here and you will bring us back home." Sam explains.
"It's my pleasure Sam, really. I'm glad I can help."
He looks at me, with a bit of smile on his lips, and he pulls me into a hug.
It's the first time someone puts me into a hug and not the other way around. It feels so comforting and safe, in a different kind of way when you give a hug. I like that feeling a lot.
Then Sam's phone starts ringing. He picks up:" Dean." Then he is silent before he goes on:" Yes, we found her." and he starts explaining what happened.
"I'm not sure when Eileen can travel. Maybe we need a little more time. She is exhausted. Yes, I will keep you updated. Ok, bye then."
He shoves the phone back into his pocket.
"Come, let's go inside." and I follow Sam back to the cabin again.
Eileen is still sleeping, the fire is already low and Sam shoves wood into the small flame.
We both fall onto the couch in front of the fire. I stare at the flames, but in the corner of my eye, I see Sam's gaze flickering to Eileen every few seconds, but she is still sleeping.
"It seems like she hasn't slept well since she was brought back." I say quietly.
Sam nods: "I think so too."
First, we stay quiet for a while, but sometime later, Sam talks about how he and Eileen met.
"You know, instead of Thank you, I gestured Fuck you, the first time we met. It was embarrassing," he says, chuckling.
I need a second to remember what the second phrase means but then I start to laugh out loud. A little too loud because Eileen moves. Sam gets up immediately, approaching the bed. I get up as well, but keep the distance.
Weakly Eileen starts to speak: "You are really here. I'm not dreaming, am I?"
"No, you are not." Sam answers and takes her hand in his.
Eileen's eyes travel through the room and land on me.
"Who is that?"
"That's Evangeline. She helped me find you. She is..." Sam hesitates before he explains, "she is an angel."
Eileen's eyes widen and she asks: "Angel? What... How is that possible?"
"Long story, I will tell you everything when we are back home." Sam answers.
"I can't," Eileen replies, "she won't let me go." And her eyes wander through the small room. I follow her gaze with my eyes but I can't see anything.
"She?" Sam asks.
"The ghost of a young woman," Eileen explains, "she was murdered here, and she won't let me leave the area."
"That's why you stayed here?"
Eileen nods: "I found her body not far from here, but I didn't have anything to salt and burn her."
"Did she hurt you?"
"Not physically, she just showed me over and over again how she died. She wouldn't let me sleep more than an hour."
That explains why Eileen didn't reach out to Sam.
"Where is her body? I have everything needed." Sam stands up and reaches out for his backpack.
"I will show you." Eileen wants to get up but Sam shoves her back.
"No, you stay here. You will need all your strength for the trip home"
"I am..." Eileen starts but Sam shakes his head no. She huffs and explains to Sam where to find the body.
"Evangeline, you stay and watch out for her," Sam says to me.
I nod: "Of course."
Then he turns back to Eileen: "Don't worry, she is a friend."
Eileen nods. She trusts Sam, and I'm glad she believes him.
Before Sam leaves, he hands Eileen a gun and me a knife.
"Just in case," he says, "touch the ghost and she will disappear."
I look at the knife and gulp: "Oh, ok."
Sam gives my shoulder a clap and heads out.
Eileen and I look at each other. I'm unsure of what to do, so I stand awkwardly in the middle of the room.
Eileen slowly sits up in her bed, leaning against the frame.
"Evangeline, right?" she asks and now she is gesturing the words with her hand.
I nod.
"Don't worry, I can read from your lips," she says.
"Oh thank God," I reply, "I'm not familiar with sign language." I close the distance between us, and Eileen invites me to sit next to her.
"So, tell me," she starts, "what does an angel do on earth? I thought heaven is closed now."
"I fell out of heaven with Dean."
"You what?" she looks at me in disbelief, "Dean was dead?"
"Yes, he was, but Sam and the witch Rowena cast a spell and we fell."
She shakes her head: "I see. A lot happened while I was trapped here." she takes a deep breath, her palms stretched out on her knees.
"How are you feeling?" I ask.
She smiles poorly: "I'm tired, and I feel weak. Maybe because all I had to eat was the little bit I found around the building."
"Oh, wait." I get up and grab the backpack. I know Sam packed food. I pull out the sandwiches and other stuff and lay it on the bed.
"Eat now. And if you want, I can give you a little bit energy later so that we can head back to the bunker."
I can't call it home like Sam did, because I know my time here is limited until we defeat the guy named Jesse.
Eileen digs in and she is eating very fast. I watch her in silence when there is a noise. Our heads snap up, scanning the room.
"She is here." Eileen whispers.
"Wait, the ghost?" I reply quietly and Eileen nods. She grabs the gun, making herself ready to shoot. My palm is wrapped around the knife.
Then, suddenly, I can feel the air freeze, and the fire expires, and a young woman appears right in front of us. I startle a little, and the ghost starts to hold up her hands towards our foreheads.
"Not this time," Eileen shouts out and fires the gun. The ghost disappears again.
Eileen breathed heavily, but she doesn't move away from the bed.
I lay a palm on her arm, asking: "Are you good?"
She shakes her head, I see her eyes are wet: "The whole time, this woman showed me over and over again the cruel way she died. She let me feel what she felt. It was so much pain until the man finally killed her and she was at peace again. I guess she wanted someone else to suffer as she did."
"Even if it wasn't your fault?" I ask her.
"Vengeful ghosts don't care if it's your fault or not." she explains, "that's why we need to erase them. They just want to harm everyone else."
"I understand. And what do you need to do?"
"You need..." but Eileen gets interrupted by the snapping sound of something that falls to the ground.
Eileen stands up from the bed now, her gun pointing towards the direction. I follow her lead, but I watch out in the other direction.
The ghost appears again, right in front of Eileen and before she can pull the trigger, the ghost's palm lays on her forehead. Eileen sinks to the ground, screaming in pain. I swirl around as fast as I can. The spirit tries to do the same with me as with Eileen, but it doesn't work. With the knife I drive through her, and she ends up in smoke.
Eileen is kneeling, holding her head. I help her back on her feet and sit her down on the couch.
"She can't do that with you right?" she asks.
"No, I don't think so. At least I haven't felt or seen something."
And as we speak, the woman emerges again, this time behind Eileen. Before I can make my way around the couch and before the ghost can do her cruelty again, I can see her taking a step away from Eileen. Her face is now frozen in shock, her wide open eyes stare at her hands, while first small flames start to arise. Within a second the flames get higher and with an explosion the woman fades away. This time for good.
"Sam found her." Eileen states and I nod, my eyes wide open, shocked by what I just saw.
This was my first time ever meeting a supernatural creature. Slowly I sit down next to Eileen, the knife still in my hand.
"Is this how you are feeling? After killing someone?" I ask her, facing her.
This time, Eileen comforts me by laying a palm on my shoulder: "It gets easier and remember, you haven't killed her. She was already dead, you just sent her to heaven."
I hide my face behind my palms, but the thought of giving the woman the peace she deserves in heaven makes my heart feel a little lighter. Knowing my brothers and sisters will take care of her now is a relief.
Then the door bursts open and Sam enters.
"Are you both ok?" he asks immediately.
Eileen faces him: "Somehow." and she shrugs her shoulders.
Wordless Sam lightens up the fire again and I still think about the poor soul. No one knows how long the woman already suffered here in this world she didn't belong to anymore. And thinking about all the others still here, almost makes me sick. But Sam interrupts me: "Evangeline, what do you think? When can we go back home?"
I need a second and before I can say something Sam goes on talking: "Or do you need a little more time to charge?"
"No," I reply, "No, sorry. It's ok, I know you two can't wait to get out of here." and I look at both of them, seeing Sam's arm around Eileen's hip. I smirk, seeing this loving gesture.
"Ready?" I ask the two and as an answer they both nod. I step between them, lay my hands on their shoulders and together we leave the cabin behind.
